Hello everyone!

I am 16 years old and I live in the United States and I would like to move to Québec once I'm 18. I haven't gotten the papers back yet but considering my family history, I highly suspect that my father is a Canadian citizen but did not pass his citizenship on to me. His grandfather (father's father) was born in Canada in 1923 and his grandmother (mother's mother) was born in Canada in 1925.

If this is the case, would his citizenship be of any help to me in immigration to Canada?

Thank you in advance!

Other forum veterans can correct me, but it sounds like your grandparents' citizenship won't help you claim any Canadian citizenship. You would have to move to Canada using an immigration program instead.

Citizenship by descent for children born outside of Canada only counts for one generation; in this case, from your grandfather to your father.

You can try taking this questionnaire: https://na1se.voxco.com/SE/56/amicanadiansuisjecanadien/?lang=en&tui=auto

And read this link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/eligibility/already-citizen.html

Unfortunately this is of no help to you and you have no claim to Canadian citizenship. Most likely your grandfather had a claim to citizenship but not your father. You are unfortunately too far removed from your great great grandfather to benefit in any way.

If you wish to move to Canada permanently, you'll need to look into applying through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry once you have gained sufficient work experience and education. Having ancestors who were citizens gives you no benefit when it comes to immigrating.

Not sure what your question is. Just be patient. Calling regularly when you are in the normal processing time hasn’t hurt your application but customer service is not going to be happy receiving calls from you monthly when you have been likely advised to be patient. What is the rush? You are in your 70s and just qualified for citizenship.
