Citizenship Oath Fun Question

I’ve thought a few times how when I take my citizenship oath, I hope that I will still be swearing allegiance to Queen Elizabeth. Just for fun I thought I’d ask if anyone else feels the same way, or if, in the unfortunate circumstance that Queen Elizabeth dies before they take their oath, they will find it as meaningful to swear allegiance to “King Charles?”

Happy Holidays everyone.

Well you have to also swear or pledge allegiance to all her/his heirs and successors (including Prince Andrew)...

Though I did hear it’s possible to pledge allegiance to the flag instead of the sovereign?? Not sure how that work(s) or worked.

Good point! All heirs and successors. I just would really like to be able to say her name. Anyway thought it would be a fun question, as we all relax and have our applications on hold over the holidays. :)

Yeah, I'd rather swear my allegiance to her and heirs over HRH Prince Charles (and heirs). Especially given I'm British and born after 1953 ;)

A bit like Ruth Bader Ginsburg really, they both need to keep going for a good few years :D

Happy Holidays.

Keep in mind that Charles may very well choose a name other than "King Charles" once he takes the throne. He can choose whatever name he wants and sitting British monarchs sometimes choose a new name once they are crowned. Based on Charles' full name, I think it's also very possible he will take the title of King George VII.

Also bear in mind that the Oath, while naming the reigning monarch, is actually to the Crown rather than the specific individual. (This is why the heirs and successors are mentioned. A successor may not be a legal heir, for example.)
