Hi everyone,

I got a job offer as a post doc in canada, i have just defended my thesis and applied for the work permit lmia exempt in 13 november 2019. The job should normally start on 1 first of december but my employer already sent me a letter of autorisation of late start till january 2020 that i submitted with my application.

Till now i have passed my biometric and medical exam is favorable and recevied by ircc 22 november 2019
for now the state of my application is at: "We assess whether you meet the eligibility criteria"

for morocco the work permit processing time is 19 weeks, i am wondering about people in my case where their job should start as soon as possible, how it is possible that we need to wait all this time considering that 19 weeks is 5 months?

when they process the application do they take into consideration the job start of each work permit or we are all on the same category because my work permit is closed ?

is anyone in the same case as me?
can you please share your thoughts, i am really wondering what to do ?

I would appreciate if anyone is or has been in my situation could share his experience.

thanks a lot!

They do not take into consideration the start of the offered employment.
Thanks for your reply, so it means many people can get their work cancelled before they get even an answer from ircc if the employer is not willing to wait any longer ?

if you applied online, your file is in the Case Processing Centre in Edmonton, Alberta , and the processing time for a work permit from Canada is 9 weeks, so you must wait

The time you see is the average time to complete (final decision) up to 80% of the cases. The other 20% could be shorter or could be longer.
It all depends how easily IRCC can access and verify your submitted information and of course, how quick you provide those information. For example, back-ground check would normally require a Police Certificate which will be requested by IRCC. In some countries, it may take up to 2 months to obtain it while other countries it just takes 3 days. I have seen the case from application to passport request was just over 3 weeks.

Thank you for your answer, i actually submitted my police certificate with my application, now it is saying ( we are processing your background check)
they also put: we do not need any additional information, my case now is at: We assess whether you meet the eligibility criteria"
i really hope i will get an answer in this month!

Those status most likely stick there for sometimes. A friend of mine has her "Final decision" that said "Your application was approved" and the letter to request for Passport but all other status are still "we are reviewing" or "we are processing"...
So if you go through the list of the docs that you submitted if nothing is missing, medical exam is pass, finger print is ready, police record is there, employments records and reference are there, if the job is LMIA or not, if you are graduated or not, etc... then just wait, it may come anytime
There is a web-form (search in the website) which you can use to communicate with IRCC for a specific-case if this exceed the normal time

Hi again, i would like your opinion regarding my case.

My job should normally start on 1 december 2019.
i submitted my file on 13 of november 2019.

i submitted a letter from my employer saying an authorization letter of late start in january 2020 is allowed. does it means that if they process my file till february and when they find that january also has passed, can they refuse the work permit for me because my work start and authorization date of my employer has already passed by too ?
