Non Accompanying Spouse

Hi All ,

Hope you are doing well. I am currently under certain dilemma which I never researched because all the while I was only worried about getting my IELTS CLB 9 band. Now jumping to the question :

Recently while creating my EE profile I listed my wife as non accompanying because for the past few months she has been applying for universities in Canada to pursue Master's course as back up plan just in case if I don't clear Ielts. But I recently cleared IELTS with a crs score of 467 without my wife's credentials. However recently I found that this may issue with respect to my PR process post receiving ITA. Now my question is

1. What are my chances getting rejected ?

2. Does the above reason of not including my wife due to her plans of pursuing master's in Canada a good enough for getting approval ?

Any help here is highly appreciated .

If she is planning on coming to Canada with you, she is accompanying. If she got PR as your dependent, she wouldn't have to pay international fees.

You can certainly try to explain "I've marked her as non-accompanying because she plans to come to Canada on her own," but you may raise questions.

Thanks for responding. Well she will not be accompanying me with my PR since she will be travelling on study permit to Canada separately. Since you said it might rise some questions how much will it affect my chances my chances of approval ?

I don't understand why you would exclude her from the application if she is already wanting to go to Canada and in the process of applying student visa. PR is much better as it can lead to cheaper fees and citizenship.

Unless you did it to boost your points which is not wrong and should have stuck to that. I made my spouse nonaccompaning because otherwise we would never get invite with CRS so high. My file is now at LVO so will update once they make a decision on my file.

Well few months back when we both initially planned on doing and checked CRS score including her was reducing 6 points and with the rise in CRS score and my inability to crack IELTS CLB 9 we decided to send her to pursue her master's as a backup or safety net for both. Honestly I was not aware of these complications back then and ignored to do her ECA as I was never planned on including her in PR. However recently I was able to secure 467 and when I checked CRS calculator including my wife my score stood at 467 and I am not sure how and why. Maybe I did something wrong previously. I am in dilemma whether to update my profile to accompanying spouse and wait for her ECA which will take another 3 months in this scenario without her ECA my score drops to 459 but with her ECA it stands at 467 or to just keep my profile to unaccompanying spouse which keeps my score at 467. What would you suggest ? If my PR is in process irrespective of accompanying or unaccompanying spouse will it affect her chance of securing study permit ?

As I stated in your other thread, her wanting to do a Master's degree in Canada is not a valid reason to put her as non-accompanying. It makes no sense and IRCC will likely think you are lying and actually did it to try to increase points.

Whether she is accompanying or not, she is fully included in the PR app and any effect on a study permit app will be the same.

Get her ECA done and then ask IRCC to change to accompanying. They will recalculate your CRS points but like you said it won't decrease. This is the best option for her as well.

Stick to unaccompanying now to secure ITA at 467. If you get an ITA, proceed as unaccompanying. Simply state reason as points...
Start processing her ECA immediately and once it is ready, inform IRCC and they'll change to accompanying. You'll be fine as long as your recalculated scores don't fall below the crs for the draw you received ITA

@Fantastica thanks for the suggestion. My concern is her ECA might require 3 months to complete and in meanwhile if I secure an ITA I am not sure will I be able to get her completed ECA at the time of document submission. Is there an option where I will be able to make these changes post the document submission ? will IRCC accommodate my request and change my profile to accompanying spouse at that stage ?
