Married in Mexico - Divorce Underway in Canada

I am a Canadian citizen. I married my soon-to-be ex-wife in Mexico in 2012. I filed for divorce in September. I was told recently that the Canadian divorce won't be recognized in Mexico, and I would have to go to my soon-to-be ex-wife's state in Mexico and file for divorce there, as well. Does anyone know if this is correct? Thank you.

As far as I know, you only need to file divorce in mexico, since your marriage is registered there.

No need to file divorce in Canada.

If you re-marry and sponsor your spouse again then submit your divorce certificate and marriage certificate.

My soon-to-be ex-wife is a Canadian citizen now. She has been here for five years. We never lived in Mexico at all during our marriage. She did live in Mexico only when she was waiting for her P.R. Canada would have jurisdiction over the marriage because of the time we've both been here, and again, I have filed for divorce here in Canada already. So, again, is it true that Mexico would not recognize the Canadian divorce? I'm planning on getting married in Mexico again once my divorce is final, so the accuracy of the information here is critical.

If you critically need advice on legality of divorces in Canada elsewhere, you should talk to a lawyer and not trust anonymous writers on a forum.

But I believe you're correct in your process. A divorce in Canada should suffice.
