Hi guys, I hope someone could clarify something for me. We are in need of getting Stage 1 approval in order for my husband not to get deported. The sponsorship application processing started on November 5th and PR on November 21 is this normal for both to be worked on in parallel and with such a short gap? Or are we getting lucky and the Stage 1 Approval is coming shortly?

From what I have been seeing on these forums and the tracker is that once AOR is sent, the sponsorship approval takes place first but there is maybe a couple weeks delay before the sponsor approval is sent out. (see in my signature below, we got AOR Sept 9 and I got my sponsor approval 9 days later)
That's when things seem to happen quickly as far as biometrics request, police check and in some cases medical request too. Shortly after that happens, your application is moved to the chosen visa office. That could be Mississauga or the country visa office of the applicant's home country.
If there is no problem with the application, then you should be very due for a sponsor approval (if applicable) notice very soon.

Does the deportation hinge on the application starting to be processed? As in once they receive and acknowledge it, the deportation is put on hold until approval or denial?
