Hi there! I am a medical doctor. I am currently in Turkey. I have a valid job offer in Ontoria as a fellow starting July 1st, 2020, paid, full time, and LMIA-exempt. I want to apply for express entry and I am hoping to claim points for my job offer while I am still in Turkey but I am confused a bit. Can I get points from express entry for this LMIA exempt job offer?

What makes me confused is some remarks on the forums: As far as I understand if you have a work permit and you are working for an employer on a LMIA-exempt position you can only claim points for a job offer only after you have worked for a full year and your contract is prolonged for another year for the same employer.

Does this mean that first I have to go and work for one year and only after that I can claim points if the contract is renewed or does this apply only to people who have already started working on a LMIA exempt job with a closed work permit?

I would appreciate any response from more experienced candidates. I am a newbee.

You cannot get points for this job offer now.

You will have to work in Canada for a full year before you will qualify for job offer points under Express Entry. To get the points, your employer will also have to provide you with a letter confirming they are offering you a permanent job for at least a year after you become a PR.

Thank you for your reply. I have previously worked for a full year in 2016-17, again as a fellow on a LMIA exempt position in another state (BC). Does this make me eligible for claiming points for my job offer or should it be for the same employer and consequetive?

No - this does not make you eligible. You need to work for this employer in Canada for a full year before you will be able to claim the 50 points.
