Hi folks, I want to share some experience on how I got my pgwp with an expired study permit. In 2015, I graduated from humber college and was ready to apply for pgwp then I realized that my study permit expired on my graduation day. I talked to international student office and learned that the correct way to deal with this is to extend my study permit even though I'm graduating because I need at least one month to receive my confirmation of graduation. Well, it doesn't make sense because technically at that time I'm not studying anymore so there's no valid reason to extend my study permit but that's just the rule.

So I applied online, extension of sp, restoration, work permit, all in one package. I paid my $605 and after one month my study permit restoration was approved but the weird thing is my work permit application is not showing up under my account. And I never received any email or letter regarding my work permit. I called CIC and they told me my work permit application was rejected but he thinks I did everything right so he will put a note in this application. I was so upset so I posted a thread on canadavisa forum. A very nice gentleman @hassan7090 called me and gave me some suggestions. He said maybe I should have sent paper application instead of online application to make sure that only one office looks at both cases. I think that makes sense, plus when I did it online, the system glitched out(only study permit application showed up, the work permit application was invisible to you). Also, I think another way to deal with this situation will be applying for restoration first, after that approved, apply for pgwp.

So if you have your study permit expired for some reason, don't panic. Restore it ASAP and eventually, you can sort it out. But act fast! Hope my experience can help you, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

You are one lucky guy. The visa officer was lenient with your application. But not her...

Miss Avi Adroh arrive in Canada with study permit and expired October 2010 and was extended until Dec 31, 2010. In May 5, 2011, more than 4 months after her status expired, she applied for a PGWP. On July 19, 2011 she receives a refusal (after 2 months). She applies for a judicial review that the officer made an error. Application for judicial review is dismissed.

Hey, I am kind of in a similar situation as you @bij0520. I also applied online for the restoration of status and extension of SP online. I know it has been a long time since you made the application but can you please share your timeline for the process and how long it took for your study permit to be extended? Just so I can get an idea. Thanks!

there is rule of 90 days

An application for restoration must be made within 90 days after losing temporary resident status. Your temporary resident status cannot be restored because your application was submitted after the regulated 90-day period. Since you no longer hold temporary resident status in Canada, your work permit application cannot be approved.

Thank you so much for your update. Extremely appreciated. I have the similar situation and I've been searching. There are a lot of suggestion on which status I should update but I can't tell which one is correct. Many thanks for this so now I know what to do next!!

I know... but at least I know which status to restore
When restoring for status will they not be asking information about the courses you intend to take and other information required for students to provide and if so how can you provide this information if you do not intend to take any course?

My friend is going through the exact same process as you and I think she will be restoring her status as a visitor. What do you think? How is your process going?

90 days ≠ 3 months.

You applied for Restoration beyond the 90 day period, so expect a refusal and to be told to leave Canada.

You cannot work.

If you are still within the 180 days to qualify for a PGWP, I suggest you leave Canada and apply. If you wait for the Restoration app to be processed, you will likely be beyond the 180 days and unable to apply for a PGWP.

My study permit also expired on Nov 30 but I had already applied for extension on Oct 16 but my application is still under processing stage.
So if anyone can guide me that since I am done with my studies at present, Can I apply for my PGWP keeping in mind that my current study permit has expired while still waiting for my extension.

Kindly guide
Thanks
