Is CA Articleship counted as a valid work ex?

Hi,

While I have talked to a lot of consultants, this doubt still remains!

I am a Semi Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA inter qualified, Final remaining) from India.
I have 2+ years of work ex in addition to 3 years of internship in Audit firms.

My question is :
Is Articleship/ internship undergone as a part of CA curriculum counted towards valid work ex?

ICAI Regulation specifies in its entirety
a)The working hours for the articled assistants shall be 35 hours in a week excluding the lunch break.

b)Lettter of completion is issued by the Institute (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)) specifying that the Articled clerk as completed articleship on so and so date. (No work ex. letter issued by the Firm where articleship is done, but a Centralised body(ICAI) certifies that, which is only after submission of various forms from the Firm to it.


Note: 2 years of my Articleship is Post bachelors.

Will it be counted as valid work ex. in light of the above facts?

Well the 35 hr/ week excluding lunch is the minimum n/o hours and it actually goes above 45 hr/ week when we actually work bt that is not mentioned on papers generally.

I even want to know the same thing, its seriously great confusion and no one exactly knows about it.

Ok for a valid work experience your job has to be:
0, A, B
You need to be qualified according to that country (where you work) to do that job (for example you cannot claim to be a doctor without a proper diploma).
It has to be a paid work experience
And then there are rules to qualify that specific NOC. Where at first you will have to work 12 months continuously in that NOC (or 2 years for a part time job).
Funny enough you do not need to get those 12 months by one employer (it can be for example several simultaneous part time jobs in the same NOC). Or if you have found an employment that starts just the next day the previous have ended.
Also what is stated for full time employment is just a minimum. You are free to work as long as you wish (of course if you do not break the local rules). But those excessive hours will not be counted in order to get your CRS points faster.

So in your case, what was your NOC during your internship? Was it an 0, A, B?
Was it a paid work experience?
Was it continuous work experience?
And of course such work experience cannot be counted if it happens during your Canadian studies. (in order to get Canadian diploma)

Hi PG12,
Take this for a fact that CA articleship is not considered as work experience.

I'm a CA myself, and I found out on an official CIC page that any work done in pursuing an education (like an articleship) will not be considered work experience.

So I had to wait a year till I had proper work experience post CA.

But take some additional advice to be sure. In general it makes sense, because it satisfies all criterias but one.
