I recently got my citizenship after 7 years of living alone in Canada. I'm 50 years old. I thought I would be okay by myself until I got diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully it was an early stage bc. Done with all my treatments. I'm single never married no children and have no relatives here. So now I'm considering to sponsor my niece who is 17 years old. Although her mom who is my sister is in London UK. She is fine with this as she has another child a son 21 years old. My sister is separated from her husband. My niece and nephew are in the Philippines. Questions: 1. Would I be able to sponsor my sister instead and have her children as her dependents? 2.Or I can only have my niece? 3. Is my nephew too old to be included? He just turned 21. Thank you for future feedback!

I'm assuming that both of your parents are deceased.

Yes - you can sponsor your sister and include both of her children (assuming both are unmarried and aren't living with a partner). The application will need to be received by IRCC before your nephew turns 22 in order for him to be included. Note that there are income requirements to sponsor other family members. You'll need to show that you make enough income to meet the income requirements for a family of 4.

Yes my nephew and niece are single. I will check the income requirement for 4 people. Otherwise, if I opt to have my niece alone would that be possible? My sister while in London, is willing to support her if she continues her schooling here. She has a stable job there. She just really wants me to have somebody because of my health condition. Thank you!

Again, all of this assumes that both fo your parents are deceased. If one or both of your parents are still alive, then none of this is possible.

Hope you continue to get better and good luck.

Yes both of my parents are deceased. My dad passed away 2013 my mom 2017. They would have been in their 80s. Because of their age they were not interested in coming here. Thank you very much!

No my sister is by herself. My income is sufficient for 4 or 5 basing on what I posted although I have no savings because when I got sick employment insurance from government is only up to 6 months. I used up my savings. Now I'm starting all over again. I would be able to find them jobs once they get here. I have good credit score but in terms of cash I'm low. I hope they won't look into how much money I have. Perhaps by the time they get here, things will be better. I've been working for a year and income statement would not be an issue. Thank God Thank you for your feedback.

IRCC will look at your income, not how much money is in your bank account.

EI for unemployment does not count as income for family sponsorship so you will have to subtract that amount from your total income.
I worked more than a year now after my employment insurance so I believe I'm okay with income. Thank you!

I have more questions please. My sister in UK has Leave to Remain status and been there for the last 10 years. 1.) Does she need to go back to Philippines so I can sponsor her or would her status make my application easier? 2.) So if I sponsor her should she send her pr application here in Canada or should she apply to Canadian Embassy in London. 3.) My nephew is turning 22 August next year do we still have enough time? Should I have a consultant or representative to process or comply documents faster? Note: my nephew and niece are both in Philippines.

Remember that you would be submitting your 2018 NOA at this point not 2019.
Oh wow that might impact my application then although I returned to work August 2018. So if my application gets delayed so that my income qualifies then I won't be able to sponsor my nephew.
