Hello everyone,

I am a Canadian PR and will be getting married soon in India. Just wondering, what are the chances of getting my future wife to Canada? Since, we both are not married presently, can she apply for a Visitor's Visa now so that she can come to Canada with me after marriage or does she have to apply for a Visitor's Visa only after marriage?

I understand that the processing time for Outland Spousal Visa is atleast 1 year so what are the chances of getting her to Canada before the spousal application is in process? Any advise will be highly appreciated :)

Thank you!

I would suggest applying for visitor's visa before marriage. If you are sponsoring her, upload all evidence of relationship. It's just a 2 week process for Indian passport holders.

Thank you for your reply! Even though if she gets her visa approved now , she will be travelling to Canada after marriage so won't there be any issue with the immigration?

No issues at all, she can travel anytime within the validity of her visa.

Hey! @vig123 I would suggest you not to mention anything about your relationship right now. Since the chances of approval will be quite low. Mention some good reason/purpose of travel.

Once she gets there, you can Go ahead with the inland application

chances of getting it approved after you mention the wedding and later are low and they’ll tell you to wait for the immigration process to get over, before she’ll get there

So it’s better to try your luck now

Thank you so much for your information
But my concern is if in the letter if she says that she will be visiting me (as a friend) and after marriage while sponsoring her if the immigration asks for all the receipts (including the wedding hall) won't the question arise as why she didn't mention in the letter earlier that we will be getting married ? Please advise !

She can fly to Canada but entry will still be decided by CBSA.

If she list you as her spouse, she will need probe the common law relationship, since you are not yet married.
I would suggest she apply before you get married. When she get to Canada you can married her especially if you do have any documents based on which country you are applying from to validate common law status. And ensure she has some travel history.
