Here is my timeline

1. Application sent on 20 Sep 2018
2. Application received on 24 Sep 2018
3. Started process on 20 Dec 2018
4. Biometrics requested on 10 Jan 2019
5. Biometrics done on 17 Jan 2019
6. Medical requested on 12 Jan 2019
7. Medicals done on 25 Jan 2019
8. AOR 1 received on 17 Jan 2019
9. File transferred to London visa office and confirmation letter received on 10 March 2019
10. No updates since 10 MArch 2019 so I sent webform inquiry after 60 days
11. PFL received on 13 Sep 2019

so ur AOR2 is march 10? was ur wife living in pakistan?

yes this should help u should also get letter from ur wifes parents n family or friends that they will support u guys when u come to canada if ur wife is not working lettet of support will help a lot

yeah absolutely they will ask for the Schedule A background declaration two times once at the beginning of your application and 2nd once on the last stage 80 % of your application may the 2nd check takes almost 6 or 8 months.

yeah it's depending on the case and home country unfortunately for Asian countries it takes long.......time

Time line
Application was submitted on September 13, 2018
* On January 4, 2019, the Sponsor's eligibility was approved.
* In February 2019, the file was transferred to the visa office in London for processing of the applicant
* Criminality and medicals have passed.
* Security has not yet started and the eligibility is currently under review
* On August 22, 2019, IRCC had requested a Schedule A form, copy of the new passport from Pakistan, proof of communication between the applicant and the sponsor, proof (if applicable) of applicant and sponsor visiting.
* A police certificate was also requested which has been received on September 9, 2019

Is this when they start the background check?

Also, is it mandatory to register for one of these services? I wonder if you don't whether it has any impact on the decision...
