Hi,

I have a PhD degree from Canada (awarded in 2016), have worked for less than two years at different universities in Canada. For personal reasons I have not applied for PR yet. Currently I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in a university in Ontario (for over 8 months now - on work permit), which is LMIA exempt. I have a written contract for another year for the same job (Postdoctoral fellow; LMIA exempt). My IELTS score is also high (between 7 to 9 in various sections). My wife has IELTS score and higher education as well. I submitted our profile almost a week ago (through mycic).

My question is that, why after creating the account, it gives me only ~ 435 points? When using the online calculator, it shows me ~ 510 points.

Mainly my express entry account shows:
CRS - Arranged Employment 0
CRS - Canadian education 0

((PS: I answered this question with NO. Was a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) issued for the job offer in Canada?))

I would really appreciate your help or advices.

Regards.

For the arranged employment, you have correctly been awarded zero points. Since you are LMIA exempt, you must work for your employer for a full year before you can get job offer points.

For the Canadian education - you must have selected a wrong option somewhere and that's why you're not being awarded the points.

Thank you very much for your reply.

1- For Job Offer:
I started my work with this employer since Oct 2018. My new job offer is from Oct 2019 to Oct 2020 (1 year).
So can I get the job offer points, lets say, on Nov 2019? But then the offer will be less than a year?

2- Regarding the Canadian PhD degree:
How many points should I expect to get for this?

Also, I have selected the following options in my application:
In the Education history I have chosen the following: (I am removing the specific names and locations here)
- Has (my name) finished high school or any higher education (including university, college or vocational training)? (required)
YES

-Field of study (required)
I selected my field...

-Since what year? (required)
2012

-This is my current study (required)
No

-To (required)
2016

-Complete/full academic years (required)

-Full-time/part-time study (required)

-Name of school/institution (required)

This is your problem. You should have answered yes. The first bullet covers all universities in Canada.

I don't know how many points you'll get for your PhD. I don't have the points system memorized. You can find this info easily on the IRCC web site.

To get the 50 job offer points, your employer will need to give you a letter stating they are willing to give you a permanent role for a year after you become a PR.
