Extend your stay in Canada

My stay in Canada will expire on 28th of September 2019 even though I have a TRV until 2024.

I am now in the process of submitting my application for sponsorship of a spouse within Canada but I am not sure if I will manage it to collect all the documents before this date.

So if I will not manage to collect all the documents until this date, I will apply to extend my stay.

In the meantime can I still submit my application for sponsorship of a spouse within Canada, while waiting for a decision to extend my stay?

Does anyone know?

Yes, you can submit your application while you're waiting to hear back on the extension. Generally though, it's better to submit the sponsorship application first, and then apply for an extension - that's quite common and you usually do get a year-long extension.

hi, in my case, i was not able to gather all the documents for the sponsorship application yet (marriage certificate for example is taking a lot more than we were told, by the services, it would take), so will have to apply for extension in the meantime.

which makes me wonder if I should apply for 6 months extension? or already for 1 year extension?

thank you:)
