So are you claiming points for both English and French?

If so, is there any difference between TEF and TEF Canada? As far as I understand, or at least it used to be the case that TEF Canada had some sections of the test that were optional that were not optional in TEF. So I suppose TEF should work for TEF Canada.

Yes I believe you are fine. As I understand TEF Canada has one section less compared to the TEF test and hence your TEF test can be used for TEF Canada.

So yes, go ahead and use both English and French and you may furnish TEF scores for TEF Canada.

I still think it will be acceptable. How many sections does the TEF have? How many does TEF Canada have?

From what I read TEF has an additional section of french grammar that is not required for TEF Canada.

Look up the tests themselves and compare them. You will see what I am talking about.

Hello again and apologize for bringing up this discussion again
because it was important for me to fully understand which French language test will be accepted for Express entry system

as i've searched yet , Canada wants all 4 skills as a compulsory skills (speaking+reading+writing+listening)
  • TEF has 2 optional and 2 compulsory sections / TEF Canada has 4 compulsory Sections
  • Express Entry asked for all sections (mandatory)
  • because of this they do not mention TEF + that optional exams
SO

with giving 2 optional sections from TEF (writing and speaking) i think we change TEF to exact what Express entry asked .

as a result :D i think TEF Canada is same TEF with 2 extra mandatory sections :rolleyes:

thanks, so they might have changed the format of TEF over time.

But thanks for this piece of information.

This should be helpful for people looking for this information.

I think you should just contact potential exam centers (as I recall it is only Alliance Francaise) and ask whether they conduct the TEF Canada. I would avoid trying to just do the sections separately - immigration is complicated enough without innovation :) You also have an option to do the TCF (but the option came after I did the TEF, so don't know much about it). I'm sure you've seen this: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=998&top=29

I live in Bangkok, but had the choice of going to Vietnam or Singapore to do the TEF Canada (and yes, it was specifically given as TEF Canada, and everyone there was doing it for immigration). My local AF said they don't do it. I would say that, compared to IELTS, the frequency of the test is low (I think it was 4 times a year or something in Singapore) and the results can take some time.

Bon chance!

Hello @aamool thanks for your reply
something you pointed not clear to me let me i clarify with you
1-you did TEF exam ? if yes did you give all sections (include compulsory and optional)
so what happened does IRCC accepted your TEF ?or you didn't mention ?

2-what you mean by your local AS said do not do it? what task he/she advise you ?

3-what you mean by low frequency ?

4-so you meant i have to verify with Language organizer(in my country we don't have alliance) ?but in this case in my country TEF and TEF Canada held ...i think you mean i ask whether i can give optional sections or NOT?please clear it for me
or i think better if possible i verify with IRCC

finally you mean just TEF with optional can be accepted or not
@aamool why i ask you word by word because about this thread there are really different ideas!!still i am confused i don't know how i can solve it
