Cannot answer your specific question or comment on whether you might have been working illegally but I guess all you can do is to attend Service Canada with your post landing COPR and see what happens. What choice do you have anyway if you want to work, maybe apply the rule if not asked do not volunteer any information.

How will changing your SIN impact your tax filing? I guess it would make sense to wait until of the end of the year to change my SIN? Any thoughts?

Hi

1. You should change it once your are a PR, CRA will "marry up" your previous non immigrant no. with your new PR number.

I have already changed my SIN after becoming PR. Do I need to change my SIN on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website?

Hi I just got my PR and new SIN as well. I updated my bank and my employer. should I call CRA as well to update my new SIN?

I think you need to call them to link up the two tax numbers, regardless whether temporary to permanent or the reverse.

I would like to point out as there is a lot of misinformation on this thread.

Your temporary SIN will never expire despite what people say. Because SINs don't have expire like people think that number is personal to you and will never be given out again to somebody else. I know this because of when I was on implied status still using my same SIN, however if my SIN had expired when my work permit had like people say on this thread then my employer would have contacted me or my tax fillings would have been wrong. Another thing when issued my second work permit they didn't give me a new SIN or tell me to apply for one or ask for my current one. Why?Its because your current one will never expire. The CRA and CIC aren't very well connected. People work for years on expired SIN numbers its illegal and not good but it happens.

Also even when you change to a permanent SIN anything using your old SIN will redirect to the new one so there isn't a big rush to tell your work and everybody your new SIN, I waited it until the end of the tax year then got my employer to update my SIN. In essence they both come connected so all your tax fillings are as one.

Another thing if you're in Canada when you get PR then you can't actually change from a temporary to a permanent SIN until you get your PR card.

Oryt people been der done that.
1. You don need PR card for changing SIN . You proof of landing is enough , i did same no issue.
2.Anyone saying systems are not interconnected is wrong information imparted.Reach out me separately i will tell ya how i know that. But systems talk atleast for basic information of a person.
3. SIN is not controlled by CIC lets get clear, All SIN and financial information lies in CRA domain and they can get any information they what in the name of Financial scrutiny and report back to IRCC or extract validation information. Reach out to me DM again how i know this.
4. NO expired SIN would cause any immigration issues will put a flag for enquiry once u file taxes and trust me we are good at it .
5. You only call CRA if there is address change or something rest naaa.SIN info flows seemlessly in entire system

Just stumbled across this thread and Im a bit confused. So for outland, how and when does the PR get their SIN and is that still considered temporary and once the PR gets their PR card do they need to change it to a permanent one? Just asking as we're landing back in Canada next month and wanna make sure I have all my ducks in row :)

They're an American PR , I'm not sure if that helps.

So .. as soon as u land and activate ur PR.. you can get ur SIN.. for example at TORONTO. Airport they do everything in the airport itself. The have service ontario in airport itself and u can get ur SIN before you leave the airport yeaa..

And in ottawa.. i completed my landing. At1000 islands and while driving changed my SIN.

No biggie .. DM if u need more info

Hi, to update SIN that starts with 9 after becoming a permanent resident, what type of application should I choose? Change of status??
