You will still meet the RO, as you have enough time to get 2 years by Feb 2021. If you didn't spend much time in Canada in 2016, you need to be very careful about leaving Canada at all in the next few years.

Expect 6-8 months.

Doesn't matter which of you sponsors him.

There is no minimum income requirement. You have to show you can support yourselves in Canada without welfare.

Thank you!
We just had our second child born here in Canada and I was thinking of applying for child benefit. Will that count as welfare? We didn’t have any income in Canada last year as we didn’t leave here.

Also will it be the Sidney or Mississauga officenwe should apply through as we already are living in Canada I mean while we apply.

No, it is not welfare. The benefit you receive will be based on your foreign income.

As stated in the guide, dependent child apps go to Sydney.

What province did you move to? Did you have have a health card from your soft landing?

Sorry just saw your question.
No, we didn’t have any OHIP until 2weeks ago. We belong to Ontario.

As we proceed some other questions are coming up regarding the proof of financial.
Appreciate your input:

- In regards to proving our financials. Is a simple saving bank account statement sufficient enough ? Would it matter if the statement is from a Canadian and or from a Swedish bank?

- if we buy a condo in Canada(with mortgage of 65%), would it be beneficial to include the “ownership statement” as a financial support document (Coupled with the “bank saving” statement )? Or would the mortgage be seen as a liability and hence weakening our financial status?

Hello, thank you for this very helpful section everyone. Can anyone tell me what's the usage duration of a TRV ? For eg from the date of issue of TRV till how many days is the visa valid to land? In the case of PR it was 01 year from stamp date. TIA

There is no must use by date but a TRV will have a validity date and if multi entry can be used multiple times through to the validity date which could be a number of years.

Thank you for the response. The reason I asked was because we want to bring our newborn daughter, born outside Canada with us when we finally move to Canada. We are both PR holders and plan to move in early 2020. So didnt want to apply too early and end up having to rush things if the TRV validity date for single entry is in the very near future.

You need to be very careful and leave yourself a lot of time. Children of PRs are not guaranteed a TRV or a TRP so you will need to make sure you are still compliant with your RO if you have to wait with your child for up to 10 months while your husband sponsors your child from Canada.

Hello canuck78, thank you for your response. husband here :). All of us (husband, wife and child) are in Pak currently. When we did our landing I was 01 year into doing my post grad degree which was supposed to be completed in total of 02 years, however due to certain procedural issues at the university it has taken 04 years. Now we plan to move together to Canada for good and since are applying for our child. We have included the documents of educational history and course timelines, enrolment date , graduation dat etc and also financial documents to support our child's TRV application. We will apply for sponsorship of our non PR child after landing in Canada.

Just want to clarify. When did you land in Canada and how much time did you spend in Canada? It doesn’t seem like you are meeting your residency obligation.

Your first issue will be whether you can get a TRV or TRP. Second will be getting into Canada without being reported given that you have not met your RO. Until you meet your residency obligation you can not sponsor your child. If you try it will trigger investigation into your RO and you could lose your PR status. School is not a reason not to meet your RO. The other issue is most provinces will not provide health coverage for your child if she is just a visitor if you are able to get a TRV.

I noticed that you are a specialist physician and you have just finished your training. Have you researched how incredibly unlikely it will be that you will ever be able to practice medicine in Canada? There are very few residency spots available for IMGs and the ones that are available are usually family medicine. Those are still difficult to get. There would be such a small chance of getting a residency in for example radiology. Some Canadian students won’t be able to get a spot in their desired specialty. I am not trying to be very negative I just know the system well and have seen so many IMGs who try for many years to get a residency and are genuinely shocked that so many IMGs will never practice medicine in Canada. On top of that many specialists can’t find a job when they graduate. Since it seems like you haven’t met your RO to begin with, which could lead to you potentially losing your PR, I would really encourage you to look at other countries that will make it much easier for you to get licensed like UK, US and many other European countries. Unsure about Australia and New Zealand but those may be options as well. If you have no desire to practice medicine again that is different but given that you just completed your residency or fellowship you are in for a huge shock and a lot of disappointment in Canada.

Hi Experts,

I need your help.

My self and my wife are PR's since Nov 2016. My wife left to India for delivery in April 2017. I remained in Canada and was working till Dec 2017 and came to India. Since then we were in India. My wife went back to Canada in Jan 2019. I am planning to go back to Canada in Sept 2019. Our PR's are valid till Jan 2022.

Now we need to apply PR for my 2 year old daughter. I want to initiate it by Aug 2019. My wife is currently earning CAD 2100 on survival job (She is hopeful to get her Skilled job anytime now). I also have a job offer commencing on Oct 1st 2019 with a take home salary of CAD4000.

1. I was the main applicant when I applied for PR for myself and my wife. Now to sponsor my daughter, can my wife being in Canada do it or I(main applicant) have to be in Canada to file the sponsorship.

2. Any Residence Obligation is required for us to sponsor my child now?

3. As mentioned above about our financial situation(Job and Salary), is it sufficient? Since I haven't started my work in Canada and can start only in Oct 2019 and applying for PR now. Is it ok for me to just submit my job offer letter with salary breakage as proof? will they consider?

4. I heard from someone that Main applicant of the original PR application, only can sponsor the child and the main applicant should be working in Canada and submit 10 month pay stubs. Is it correct?

5. What is the time frame for the child to receive the PR after applying? While the PR application is in progress, can we apply for Visiting visa and bring her to Canada. (While this PR application is in progress and applying for Visiting visa, myself and my wife will be in Canada...any prerequisites need to be followed in this case?)

Too many questions, but please help guys.

Looking at my case. What do you guys suggest?

Thank you.

1. She can sponsor.

2. No issue because she meets the RO.

3. Should be fine. Yes, they will consider your job offer.

4. "Someone" is an idiot. Don't take any more advice from them.

5. Expect 8-10 months. Yes, you can apply for a TRV for the child while the sponsorhsip app is processing.

The only thing you must be very careful is that you and your wife meet the RO and continue to meet it while you sponsor your daughter. You must stay in Canada for 2 out of 5 years starting July 2016. Getting a TRV for your child may not be possible. If you get denied you can try a TRP. If that gets denied you will have to wait for the sponsorship. Depending on the province you may need to purchase emergency health coverage for your child if your daughter gets a TRV or TRP. You will have to pay for routine medical care.

Thank you Canuck for your valuable reply and suggestion. Much appreciated.

As mentioned earlier about my job. I have not yet received my offer letter from the employer. Can we go ahead with my wife(Sponsor) employment documents(CAD 2100 enough?) and later submit mine when I receive it.

Do you have other savings beyond the $2100?
