Postdocs are LMIA exempt.

Quoting from UBC

Once the the appointment as a postdoctoral fellow has been confirmed at UBC, their Department or School will provide a letter of offer and the Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Offer ID Number. This information is required to obtain the necessary authorization to work in Canada. It is important to note that postdoctoral fellows do not require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), but the employer must pay a $230 compliance fee and provide Offer of Employment information to IRCC.
Hmmm... I don´t see where the OP completed a PhD...

it was my mistake. I should have been more clear. What I meant was to look for LMIA exempt positions (if there are any). Otherwise one needs a LMIA to get a work permit.

Yes, I realized that later. Sorry about it. But maybe you can look at jobs which are LMIA exempt?

That`s fine. I was planning to talk to my employer for LMIA, may be he can help me with it.
If my work permit expires while waiting for decision on LMIA, would I be still able to live and work here?

I don’t think you can stay. You can only work and live here if you apply for a work permit and wait for it’s decision, this is known as implied status.
But I don’t think you can stay while waiting for LMIA.
@jes_ON - could you please clarify?

No, you can work on implied status only if you apply for a new work permit before the old one expires.

HOWEVER - if your employer does apply for an LMIA and your work permit is about to expire, you can apply for the work permit with the "LMIA pending" (within 2 weeks of the work permit expiring). You would have to provide some proof that the LMIA application had been submitted.
