Hello All

I am in Canada with my spouse for more than 2 yrs and have never left Canada since then.I am with valid work permit (Principal Applicant) and my spouse is in dependent visa (Visitor Record). Recently both of us were asked to provide biometric I submitted a web form mentioning that both of us are in Canada for more than 2 yrs as per public policy we should be exempted. The web form response said that I am exempted but my spouse has been asked for biometric. I called CIC agent and as per the agent my spouse should also be exempted from biometric since she is here for more than 2 yrs and we have valid permits for another 2 yrs till April 2021.

I submitted another web form and waiting for response as per the advise from the agent, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated?

Also in case I have to extend timeline for her biometric (currently it says within 30 days) what is the process as she has to plan for her travel to India?

AOR - 16 Feb 2019

Tensed and worried :(

if i can do my biometric on a canadian entry port
Hi,

AFAIK you can submit biometrics at a collection point near you. (The wording on my BIL was: “You have 30 days from the date of this letter to present yourself at a biometric collection service point to give your biometrics” — no restrictions as to which country or what not.)

Also when you use the search tool on their site it does give you a list of collection points in Canada. So IRCC might already be straightforward in this instruction.

The thing is, I just arrived in Canada last July 31 and I started work August 1. The nearest place to do biometrics here is in the U.S but obviously I can not go there without a visa. Where did you go for your bio?

Hi,

Like I said,

There are collection points in Canada. Have you checked the IRCC site to search for those?
Im not sure if i can have my biometric at the collection points in Canada since in their website, it says there that only qualified students and workers are permitted to have their biometrics at collection points in Canada.

  • Operations Manual on Biometrics Collection: If you snoop around here you might find info relevant to your biometrics concern - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/identity-management/biometrics/where.html
  • Communication with IRCC:
    • From the time that you moved to Canada, have you updated IRCC that you have relocated and are residing legally on a work permit? (In my experience, replies on a CSE takes ~7 days to be sent back)
    • If you ask them and provide details of your concern, IRCC’s Twitter account might also give a quicker response to your inquiry about where you can submit biometrics (but they will be off social media on Aug 11&12, Canada time)
  • If all else fails, take control. These countries allow Filipinos to fly without a visa, and kayak.com might give you cheap ticket options:
    • Costa Rica
    • Brazil
    • Peru
Good luck!

Okay. Hopefully they’ll reply soon. But you have options listed above in case you want to do more work yourself.

Hi. Suppose I go back to the Philippines to have my biometrics, can I still go back to Canada without any problems? I'm here in Canada through a work visa, but with multiple entry. I just want to make sure that I still come back in Canada to work without encountering any problem at the immigraton.
Thanks.

You have to check the terms of your work visa, then. I don’t know how it works for OFWs in Canada. But here in Japan, usually I just have to fill a departure and arrival slip I present to the immigration officer (IO) at the airport and then, headed back (from the Philippines), I show the IO at NAIA my residence card and my OEC (overseas employment certificate)...

One question tho, if you’re just exiting to get biometrics, wouldn’t it be cost and effort effective to just go to Brazil/Costa Rica/Peru?
• flights may be cheaper
• you wont need to go thru POEA

Do we need to book separate appointment for Biometric of spouse or it can be done in one slot with the primary applicant?
