I'm not a professional in this, but I think Canadian Master's degree for immigration purposes should be two years. i.e 48 semester hours. In my case I have completed 120 semester hours bachelors degree and 48 hours masters degree within two years. These were evaluated as 4 years Canadian equivalent bachelor degree and two years Masters degree from ICES. But both institute and programs are accredited by the regulator of the country. Still my PR application is underway so hope it won't be a matter. Hope this helps.

Thank Harshita, but in Express entry its nowhere mention 2 year of master or 1 year of master its just Master degree that makes me confuse and as per my ECA it clearly says 1 year of Master degree (not diploma or not cert)

MY ECA from ICES also says Masters Degree. It doesn't say one year or two year in the "Canadian Equivalency" section. However in the above it says 2 years graduate program. However for my Bachelor's Degree it says 4 years in the "Canadian Equivalency" section.

But I remember I was reading somewhere it should be 2 years poster graduate program, for you to claim points as master degree under human capital level of education. But I think you will get 50 CRS points for skill transfer ability if you have double degrees and CLB 9 or above and 50 another points for CLB 9 above and 3 years plus work experience.

What you loose about 8 points under human capital level of education. That's the difference between a masters degree and poster graduate diploma.

But yet again I'm not a professional in this. You will have to speak to a lawyer or someone who has handled the same scenario before and succeed.

Hi there,

First, let me clarify that I am not a professional and my advice should be taken with that kept in mind.

I am not sure if there is a specific place that says "Masters" needs to be a specific duration for the purposes of immigrating to Canada.

BUT... I know for a fact that Canadian universities offer "Masters" degree for much shorter durations. The reason I am aware of this is I plan on doing the following course once I land:

https://www.mastersportal.com/studies/157311/financial-risk-management.html

The course is 8 months and is offered by University of Toronto. It is a Masters Degree.

So no, 100% Canada does not have a specific "length of course" limitation on what is termed as a Masters degree. If this is different for immigration, my intuition says no but I do not have any solid evidence to confirm or deny it.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck.
