Clothes and essentials to carry from India to Vancouver

Hi,

I will be travelling to Vancouver to study at UBC. I am from south india where its usually warm and humid. In such a case I am expecting myself to be in a not so comfortable zone when i land there for my studies this September.

I know how to cook but I may or may not cook if i get accomodation in the university.

So based on the above information can someone give a rough checklist of clothes (including vest and briefs) and essentials that i should carry at any cost.

I am also from south India..... I am too looking forward to move to Vancouver once I receive my visa....I think Vancouver is a warm place as compared to other parts of Canada... One of ma freind who has already moved there prior and now studying in langara informed me that considering the current weather u do not need clothings suitable for cold climate..... Also once winter starts u can purchase jackets and sweater over there itself which is of good quality with reasonable price... This is just my opinion

Winter clothes are not required if you are arriving for September intake. The weather in Vancouver will be around 18-24 Celsius during August-September. This will be like the weather we find in hill stations like Ooty in the South. A light jacket or sweater is enough, depending on your tolerance of cold you might opt to not bring anything. Winter boots and winter jackets can be bought ahead of winter, in Canada itself as the jackets and boots in Canada are made for the weather there.

- If you're not coming here in the Winter, then don't buy your winter clothes at home. If you want to buy, you should def buy thermal wear as it is quite expensive here, it's good and comfortable tho.
- your original documents (birth certificate, ielts, high school transcript, national id, driving license, ect..), you probably won't need it but who knows
- we use 110V here in canada not 220V like other countries, buy an adapter. but if you're using apple products, i dont think you'll need one, but double check
- check the electrical outlet in canada, if your laptop charger doesn't have the same shape, you should buy an adaptor as well. You can buy it here of course, and it's not that expensive, but it might takes a few days to figure out the city so you can go buy it.
- and just personal hygiene stuffs like cleanser, soap, just for a couple of days when you get things adjusted.
- prepare your documents that are needed when you're landed here at the airport (passport, visa, LOA, ect) I couldn't remember what I prepared when I just got here, but be over-prepared than under.
- bring your snacks, you'll never know when you need it or miss it.
- notebook, pens, highlighters, ect it's not really that expensive here but buying from home is way cheaper.
You can definitely buy all of those things here in canada, but it's might take a while to get adjusted, and if you need it right away, you probably won't have one. Finally prepare all the documents thoroughly.
