Hi,

I got PR in Oct 2018, got married in March 2019 and have not updated CIC about my marriage. That's a miss. My PR Landing has to be done before July 11 2019. If I update CIC now about change in marital status, should I wait for their confirmation for PR landing? My husband will not be traveling with me and he has not applied for PR and we have no intention as of now. Please help. Thanks

Do NOT land. If you land without adding your spouse to your app, you will be committing misrepresentation and your spouse will be forever excluded from the Family Class, meaning you would never be able to sponsor him.

You must inform IRCC and add him to your app. He must do a medical, provide PCCs/documents and complete all forms. You will have to return your COPR/visa to be reissued.

Expect this to delay your app around 4 months or more.

Thank you so much.
Can you help me with how to update my status and update the application. I contacted CRA but they said they only update the status either when I have a SIN or when I have children born in Canada. They redirected me to Customs and Customs redirected me to Canada Embassy in NY. I am not finding the details on how to go about next steps.

Why would you contact CRA or Customs??? You need to contact IRCC. Send a Webform.

I received the following response. However, this is not applicable to my situation. Because my application is already approved based on point 2. in Useful tips. Can someone please help.

Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

If you are the principal applicant of a permanent residence application already in process, you could add your spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children to your application, even if they were listed as a non-accompanying dependant in the initial application.

To do so, we invite you to send your add-on request through the IRCC webform available on our website. You can attach the following forms and documents in the field reserved to that effect:

Useful tips

· If you need information to fill out the forms, please consult the Fill out the forms section of the instruction guide found in the application kit that you have initially used to apply.

  • If the newly eligible family member is a spouse, common-law partner or dependent child who is already a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, only a copy of the birth certificate, marriage certificate or proof of common-law relationship and a letter of explanation are required.
  • It may be impossible to add a member of your family to the application if a final decision has already been made.
We hope you will find this information helpful.

Your add-on request will be evaluated by the responsible office. You will be contacted when a decision will be made or if further information is required.
