yes u can apply. but its just a waste of money.
ididnt apply for work permit bcasue my lawyer told me not to do just wait till u get ur PR.
my situation i got aip april 11 and got landing letter may 27 landed june 8 overall waiting after received aip is 2months
but it depends everyone situation...
btw out of status for 4yrs.

august 2 2018. were you out of status by any chance? just asking because you didn’t apply for work permit before
i would say do not apply for one as it would take 3-4 months to process i am sure you will get landing before end of june or beginning of july
How can you be out of status and still be allowed to be in Canada? I was told that was very important not to be out of status. This is all so nerve wracking...#needemotionalsupportvodka
When I was a visitor I applied for a visitor extension, then when I had lived with my partner here for 1 year we became "common law" partners so then I could apply for PR status with him as my sponsor. I then applied and sent in my OWP application so I remained "in status" in Canada. That is very important to remain "in status" of some kind whether it be as a visitor, worker, student or implied status as you are in the process of your PR app.
Finally done! My wife got her COPR this morning. Timeline is roughly below:

App. sent: Aug. 14 2018 (Police certificate and Schedule A submitted upfront).
App. received: Aug. 15 2018
AOR Received: Sept. 8 2018
Medical Request: Nov 16 2018
Medical Completed: Nov 19 2018
Medical Passed: Nov 26 2018
OWP Approved: Nov 21 2018
SA: April 2019
AIP: Mid-May
Landing Interview Letter: Early June
Landing Interview+COPR: Today
The app was at the Montreal office but forwarded to local by the time the AIP came. Good luck to all.

Wow!! Congratulations!!! How long did your BGC take? Yayyy! That’s exciting! Thanks for sharing.
They actually never updated our BGC progress. I can't recall when it started, but I would assume after SA. We didn't get any updates on the progress bars on GCKey in general, even after AIP and getting the interview date. In fact, even as far as yesterday, it still said they were reviewing eligibility even though they had already sent us the AIP via email. After getting the COPR we decided to check again once we got home and the app simply said it was completed. I think in general ECAS is a lot more up to date than GCKey.
