hello! I've been living in Canada for 12 ish months- from Australia. I am a RN in a High Dependency Unit specialising in cardiothoracics for 15 years…. I've just received my advisory report from the NNAS as am extremely disappointed that it has come back at 'non comparable'.. I spose i'm just looking for guidance as to next steps, has anyone been successful in getting registered with CNO with this result? its super frustrating as im experienced and educated and they say I have 0% in patient assessment!!!!

Quite disappointing that a nurse from Australia is non comparable yet nurses from countries that are very different in terms of the nursing practice and education are somewhat comparable and comparable. The assessment is conducted by non-nurses in the United States, so one can't have too much faith in it anyways.
You'll apply to CNO and they will send you a letter with instructions. Previously, you would have been required to do the IENCAP exam, which is expensive and hard to get a spot for. Luckily after many complained and campaigned, they added another option which is to provide them with paperwork about your nursing work experience. Don't go around getting it yet--they will give you specific forms that need to be completed by current and//or past employers. Then they will assess this and it is likely that you will be deemed comparable. The one thing that catches lots of people up is the maternal-child category. Did your education include any of that?
Isn’t it!!! My degree is pretty old- I finished in 2004. We did one subject on maternal and child health. For the previous 12 months I worked in a GP clinic as well doing childhood immunisation and the (very) odd childhood assessment! We are only on 2yr working visas so I’m debating if it’s worth it... I don’t want to do any extra education, not because I know everything, but I would be full fee paying and my work visa doesn’t allow study.
I’ll be honest, the NNAS seems like a complete, expensive, scam! Especially if I then have to provide more paperwork to the CNO! There should be more emphasis on the legalities rather then can I dress a wound or take a BP! Thanks x.
Yeah probably not worth it. Will take a year at least to get your license. The maternal child health course might be enough to satisfy them. But it will still take a while to go through with the process. NNAS is a total scam to keep 'others' out.

1. We understand that applying for RN would lead to Noncomparable assessment, but applying for LPN commonly yields"somewhat comparable" result.Is it ok if we will apply both for LPNs then once we become LPNs, I will continue to process ahead as RN so my wife can work while I study in case i am required to study again.
2. Does a "somewhat comparable" result for LPN mean that we will just have to take the licensure exam for LPNs?

hi,i got my report today...it took me 1 month 15 days after ready for final review...Total 9 months...NNAS sucks......my report for RN is non comparable,as expected..and for RPN it is somewhat comparable...

1) YES it is ok
2) I did the same for my wife. You need to take licensure exam as well as IELTS which can be waived If you can provide proof from employment with examples that states English is the primary mode of communication. Additionally it will take time for processing as they will ask for employment job description where you worked as part of processing.

But other iens can be join too. I found a lot of information especially based on members' personal experience . You can ask questions; the admin and other members would be happy to help you.
Each province has seperate group as well.

They have yet to ask for my eduction and employer details but they have filled in my hours and details on my online application. Does this mean I won't have to post documents out to CARNA if NNAS said I was comparable and if CARNA have filled in the details?
