Passport/Study Permit will expire before I'm done with my studies

Hello everyone, I got a question for all of ya regarding a little pickle I got myself in.

I recently got accepted into a 4 year university program in Canada and applied accordingly. The embassy sent me an email saying that my study permit application was approved and I'm to show the approval letter to the visa officer in the entrance in order to obtain my permit. It also states that if I'm from a country that needs visas (I am) I have also been issued a temporary resident visa.

The thing is though...my passport expires before the 4 years of my studies. Idiotic I know, for many reasons, from fatigue to the stress of my daily life to just not knowing how exactly passports and permits worked, I f-d up.

Now this is what I'm wondering; what is the best course of action that I can take? Do I just start the process over and apply for a study permit again, if so would doing this again harm my new application? It's not like I lied during the first application, I stated clearly that I would be there for atleast 4 years.

Or is there a way I can attach my old visa to a new/renewed passport? I saw on some other sites that that may be an option though I am not sure of their legitimacy. If thats the case, will my temporary resident visa from my old passport transfer to the new one? If I do this, will the visa officer judge and give me my study permit based on the original passport application and I'll get slapped the expiry date connected to my old passport or will my new passport expiry be taken into account?

I know this ones a floozy. Real feedback is appreciated, please don't just reply I should do a new application on the safe side if there are other legitimate options you may or may not know about.

Visas or Permits are usually valid till the expiry date of your passport .

When you renew your passport , just extend your study permit.
Extension of permits isn't that hard like the initial application we apply before coming to Canada.

This is normal, most countries will not allow you to renew a passport before about 1 year from expiry.

You will apply for new passport maybe 1 year from expiry then apply for study permit extension and once you have the extension apply for new TRV/sticker if required(optional).

As long as TRV is valid you just travel with both passports if you need to.

Your school will have advisors who know exactly what to do.

If I renew my passport before I arrive in canada, could I get a study permit at entry that is longer than the expiry date of my old passport?

If so, could I still use the Temporary Resident Visa on my old passport to make entry in the first place?

Back in September 2014 I started university and had a study permit issued until May 2015. My passport was expiring in November 2014. I just flew to the embassy of my country in Toronto and they renewed my passport. Didn't have to renew my study permit.

1- nope. You will need to apply for an extension later.

2 - yes you can use TRV on old passport to enter. Just carry both.
