For those who require medical surveillance within 30 days of landing in Canada

I did manage to fulfil the requirement of medical surveillance within the first week of landing. As I was staying in Mississauga, I phoned up Peel Health Region and spoke with the TB nurse. I told her that I am only there for a week. She did my assessment over the phone and asked me to either fax or email the medical surveillance undertaking form (which you will receive from the immigration officer), so that they can set me up on the system. The nurse advised that I can print the doctor reporting form for inactive TB online (rather than waiting for it in the post or via email), which I will need to take it to the doctor.

The next step was to visit the doctor. So we did go to the multi speciality walk in clinic at Queensway in Mississauga. Since it is a walk in clinic, you don’t need an appointment. They asked me to come between 9am and 3pm to see the physician and a specialist. It costed me $198.00. Specialist referred me for the X-ray which was done the same day at the same clinic. I paid about $40 for the X-ray. The reports was available within 2 working days. Based on the report and my medical history, doctor filled up the form and everything was faxed to the peel health centre (number was available on the form). I phone the TB nurse again to confirm if they have received the form and my x-ray report from the doctor. She confirmed that they have received all and will update the immigration office.

I would recommend that you take all your medical records related to your TB treatment with yourself to the doctor. My records were well kept and it helped the doctor to see what treatment I had received.

I am not sure how long would it take exactly because firstly, I don’t know what part of Canada are you visiting, and what are the procedures for that region. Secondly, I completed this process more than an year ago, so things might have changed. It took me about a week to figure out everything and complete the process. 2-3 days is quite less, but if you plan everything (like finding out the procedure for the region you are visiting, phone numbers, address of the clinic you are going to visit, access to phone, internet and fax etc. - so that you can complete the formalities quickly) before you reach Canada, then it is not impossible.

hi, thank you for sharing your experience, however, i would like to know that there were any follow up visit to the doctor for medical surveillance or it was only single one visit. how much time it took for IRCC to remove status as condition of landing from your immigration file and to issue that medical compliance is over.

I think need for follow up depends on individual’s case. In my case no follow up visit was required. I just phoned the TB nurse to confirm that they have received the form and my x-ray report from the doctor and never checked if or when IRCC removed or made changes to their record. About the form, I don’t remember the website as such, you can get this information from the TB nurse. It might be different depending on what region you are going to visit. We are in similar situation. My wife has inactive TB and need to finish medical within first 30 days of landing as usual. Our Problem is we are going to do a soft landing and will be returning from the border itself within few minutes.

Can someone please advice what should we do regarding medical surveillance request, also will we get our PR cards if medical is not as we will be on Canadian soil only for minutes.
