Hey everyone,

I have applied for Canada student visa from India.

I have a big confusion in mind which I feel like sharing to the community. I genuinely wanted to study in Canada, after I completed my bachelors of engineering with 6.82 CGPA out of 10 (initially 12 but at the time when I finished my study it increased to 50 backlogs but I cleared all before applying for visa), I know this sound ridiculous but I have some difficulties in the initial stage of my study.

Now, let's move on to English proficiency, I have scored 5.5 out of 10 and applied with this score for Canada Student Visa.

I have applied by showing 24 lakhs INR of Financial capabilities and in my SOP I have mentioned below reasons for coming back to India and why I lack in education.

1. The reason I have backlogs is my laziness and procrastination and I have cleared it after immense pressure and inspiration which I received from my family.
2. My family members are here and my family has properties here, so I have to come back and I will.

Now above are the details of how I applied but unfortunately, it got refused.

and below I attach the refusal letter.

Let me know what I did wrong and should I re-apply for Canada? or what to do before re-applying? any genuine advice will always be accepted. Let me know if anyone needs any extra information regarding my problem.

what course did you apply for? in which stream did you do your engineering in?
IELTS score is not great as well
50 backlogs.. :O sounds very overwhelming... it would be a big deciding factor which you would have no control over.

I applied for Computer Networking, and I have studied Electronic and Telecommunication from here. Yeah, I know 50 sounds very overwhelmed, but I have cleared all the 50 before started studying for my 7th semester (last year) and I mentioned that in my SOP. do you have any idea on how to go ahead?

still it can affect the VO's opinion.
Try taking IELTS and have a better score, then apply through SDS stream by paying 1 years fees and GIC.

There is no possibility to apply in SDS, my backlog history not allow me to do so, and that's why I have to choose a private college, which is under the non-SDS category.

Studying in private college won't make you eligible for PGWP, I hope you are aware. plus getting a visa with the current profile and in a private college further minimizes your chances as it indicates that you just want to enter Canada by any means. If you still want to re-apply just write a rock solid SOP mentioning why you chose this college (mention backlogs were an obstacle to get any other college) and how this education would provide you bright opportunity in career in home country.

Sorry but this is what my experience tells me.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience with me. so, here is what I am thinking of going forward with. I am going to ask for notes, to know specific rejection reason and side by side I am going to start working on my IELTS again, I am targeting to get 6+ score, then will re-apply (if possible in SDS category and if not then will re-apply in non-SDS category). What do you think about this plan?

First thing is you shouldn't write you were lazy in sop. That's redundant unnecessary. State of purpose or SOP is for the purpose only. You are coming to Canada for study so write about why you are studying in canada and why you chose the this particular program. And for a Ielts I have read many people got their visa with one of the band in 5.5 but not average. If you are studying computer science and your writing or speaking score 5.5 but other scores are 6.5 it's acceptable.

As per your suggestion, I applied for CAIPS note and got CAIPS note yesterday with below reason.

l have reviewed all the documentation provided for this application. Summary of key findings below: - Applicant
has low IELTS band of 5.5 or less in one or more of the core proficiencies. Concerns regarding the applicant’s
ability to manage the course workload in English medium of instruction in Canada. Given modest English
proficiency, the PA will likely require ESL classes in order to successfully complete the chosen course.
Considering the availability of English courses locally at much less cost, I am not satisfied it is reasonable for
PA to upgrade English skills in Canada at such expense. - No tuition receipt was found on file. On balance, the
PA has failed to satisfy me that the course of study is reasonable given the high cost of international study in
Canada when weighed against the potential career/employment benefits, the local options available for similar
studies, the PA’s language proficiency, academic/work history, and personal circumstances. I am not satisfied
that the PA would be a bona fide student in Canada and would depart Canada at the end of the period
authorized for stay. Refused.
- I have tried contacting various consultancies after I received this CAIPS and they all are suggesting me to take an English course instead of re-appearing for IELTS.

- Should I go for an English course or should I re-appear my IELTS, in hope of a better score?

Please suggest me an option after reading my CAIPS notes.

P.S. - I have a fear that I am not able to score again in IELTS as my previous 3 results are not satisfied, I already took 3 IELTS and I tried my best but not able to score in IELTS.

As per your CAIPS notes even if you apply to study for an english language i.e. ESL course you will be denied as th VO has observed that such a course can be completed in home country at a lesser cost than the cost you would incur on Canada. Don't believe the consultant they are just out to make money.
It is quite evident from your IELTS score that your grasp and understanding of the English language is weak and thus unless you improve your English skills you are going to struggle. Just reaching Canada will not help you. Improve your language skills nothing is impossible.
You are about to invest. large amount of time and money so invest wisely.

Consultancies get a commission from putting you in an ESL program. I can say that none of the ESL programs out there are worth the money they are asking. Unless you live in a country that is more expensive to live in compared to Canada, you will find much cheaper options to learn English.

If you have a fear of doing IELTS, then you will most certainly have a fear of doing the exams in the courses that you are going to study, as they will be of the standard of an IELTS test.

You have to study English and then appear for the IELTS exam. That is the best way to improve your IELTS score.
