IF app taking longer time than usual ..how much they can extend... worried

May 10th, 2018 applicant. GC Key status changed to the same as yours (taking longer than usual), on May 10th, 2019. We got in touch with Canadian MP and sent a webform to visa office (HK). Both confirmed PA is in security screening by 3 parties. Time frame is unknown and they will contact us when they need some thing or a decision has been made. My husband is from Syria and completed his military service. We met and married in Jordan and now live in China. Not surprised about security screening, but they really should provide applicants with more info than 'we don't have a time frame for you'. Horrific for mental health.

I've read on other posts that secruity screening can take anywhere from 8-18 months, nothing confirmed by official sources though.

Very frustrating position this puts us in, but it's all part of the game. Hope you get processed quickly!

I like your sentence "Horrible for mental health".
My file was straight forward but still no update and waiting game going on...
Try to take care of your mental health by pretending that CIC is giving their best(!) to complete all the files within the time limit.

That is what is making frustrating for everyone, even though, it’s a straightforward thing ,without any complication with paper works or anything that is doubtful, they atleast need to keep us informed with what ways and for what it is taking that long.
How can we contact to the concern authority to find out this this?

NEED SUGGESTION::::
My time line shows 7day left to complete 12month. And honestly at this moment I am not expecting anything from this CIC system.
I need one suggestion. I am the sponsor and Im involved with a full time course so it is not possible for me to visit my wife. Is there any way I can bring my wife in Canada during this app processing phase?? If yes then what are the chances??
Its been more than a year Im away from my home country and lots of frustration going on both sides based on this application process.

If your wife is from a visa exempt country she can come visit on an ETA to Canada and may or may not declare dual intent (informing immigration at the border that she has a PR application processing) if she wishes to stay for a long duration (Although her entry to Canada is totally upto the immigration officer at the border). If your wife requires a visa to come to Canada, she will need to show very strong proof to her home country to show she has full intention of returning. Recommended number of days for visit should not be more than 3-4 weeks. But do know spouses waiting for PR processing have a high rejection rate for visitors since its hard for CIC to accept they will return and not overstay and wait out the PR process in Canada. Only a very small percentage of spouses with super strong proofs were granted visitors.

Thanks a lot for that detailed information.
My wife requires a VISA to visit Canada and she is not doing any job. It concludes that there is very less chance for her to manage a VISA.
Helpless situation from both sides.
:(
