Does this sound right? Adult asking adult children for info...

This sounds odd to me -- my ex is trying to immigrate to Canada and has asked his ADULT children for information including passport info, weight, height and eye color. He's telling them that if they don't give it to him, they will never be allowed into Canada. Does that make sense? Why would his status affect their ability to travel to Canada.

It is odd... And incorrect, unless they are still below the dependent child cutoff age.

Adult children over 22 or over 18?

If they are younger than 22, they are counted as his dependents.

Depends on their ages. If they are 18-21 years old, they must be included in his app as dependents and must do a lot more than just provide basic info. They must do a medical, fill out forms, get PCCs etc. If they are 22 or older, then they are not dependents and don't need to provide any info.

It would NOT affect their ability to travel to Canada or immigrate independently.

Actually, my husband had to have Canadian passport pics taken for his adult children, who were aged 23 and 26. He also had to provide birth certificates for each.

So, even if the 18 year old is not going with him, they need to fill out all that info?
Yes. However, if the 18 year old refuses to cooperate, then it's up to your ex to negotiate with IRCC on removing the dependant from the application.

Why? That is not a requirement. It's information that IRCC doesn't need and has no use for.

Don't know. We, of course, complied and the children cooperated. We are now awaiting our COPR, as we've been approved. At the time we also had a minor child, who is accompanying.

In short, they asked for them and we provided them. BTW, we used an immigration law firm and they thought the request was odd, too, but we all just shrugged and said "whatever."

Ah, maybe it was the lawyers that initiated the request, rather than IRCC.
