Thank you for your interest in visiting Canada. After careful review of your student permit application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). I am refusing your application on the following grounds:

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your family ties in Canada and in your country of residence.

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your travel history.

You are welcome to reapply if you feel that you can respond to these concerns and can demonstrate that your situation meets the requirements. All new applications must be accompanied by a new processing fee.

I’m an accounting graduate here in Nigeria which I got my BSc in accounting in Sept 2016. After my mandatory post graduation work experience which I served as an Auditor at a federal govt parastatal (NYSC) which I finished last year April, I got a job as a business analyst till date. I applied for my second degree which is Bachelors of Art ( Business Administration Major) last year and I got admission this year February.
I gathered all documents to support my study permit application and my aunt who is a USA citizen is my sponsor which she Mailed me all supporting documents which I submitted alongside my documents. To my surprise today I got that email stating that I was refused on for those reasons. Which I don’t really see as important ones.
NB: I have been rejected before at USA embassy in 2017 when I was applying for study visa too. And I’ve not travelled out of my residence country before. I have no wife or kids and I have no properties

Sorry I’m a newbie here and I don’t really know how this thing works. I just stumbled across this site today while I was researching reasons I could have been denied.

You need to apply for a degree that advances your skills. You already have a bachelors in accounting so a bachelors in business is repeating many components of the same degree. A masters degree or a post grad diploma would be logical after a bachelors degree. You must select a program that will lead to advances in your career and education and lead to better career opportunities.

You have many refusal reasons. The financial information that you have provided from your aunt is not enough. CIC also doesn’t believe you are a real student or that you will return to Nigeria after your studies. There are likely concerns that you plan on claiming asylum in Canada because there has been a huge influx of Nigerians applying for asylum in Canada. Would encourage you to order the GCMS notes. There is no point in reapplying until you address the concerns in the notes.

Thanks a lot for the very well detialed response. I applied the first time with the help of a travel agent who chose the course himself because of some conditions. First I didn’t graduate with good grade in my first degree 3.1 on a 5.0 scale and the Brandon university I applied for didn’t bother about my bad grade before giving me admission. Could you please advice me if a Masters of Business Administration would be advisable and I would be glad if you would put me through the more. One other thing is you didn’t address the issue of me not having a previous travel history.
