Good afternoon,

I have a friend who knows some people in Israel that want to claim refugee status once they come into Canada, I have been doing a lot of research online but really can’t find the answers they are seeking.

I know from what I have read that a person has to be outside their own country to claim refugee status (am I correct?) is there other ways that the family can come to Canada?

Thank you

They would need to get TRVs (tourist visas), travel to Canada and claim refugee status once they arrive here.

That is what I thought and read online. I just wanted to make sure and clarify. Thank you very much!

Family would only be able to come to Canada once the person has gone through their hearing and received protected status. Then they have to apply for PR. Once they get PR their family will be able to come to Canada.

Assume it is likely that they are African citizens from countries like Eritrea, Sudan, etc. Does the person have a TRV? It will likely be incredibly hard to get a TRV if they don’t have permanent status in Israel.

I will find out all the details I can and get back to the forum. Right now I am getting asked by a “middle man” and I don’t have all details. What I wrote on the forum is about as much as I know.

Getting a TRV will likely be very difficult if the person doesn’t have permanent status in Israel so that would be the first step. No use in planning further ahead than that because chances are so low.
