Every state has their own way of doing things. What is key is that you have the date you were first issued license and details of the previous & current licenses from the state. Most states don't provide this info on the online abstract and hence your safest bet is to go to the DMV and get one.

Very true statement at least for Michigan. I had to send a special written request to Lansing, MI asking a letter stating when my first MI DL was issued and not the usual DMV printout which shows just a current DL information...

Will this physical plastic old expired Canadian DL help me prove that my Canadian driving experience started in 1995 and possibly reduce Ontario Insurance rate?

Sorry, but I brought my car with me when I moved and hence never looked into auto insurance here. Hence I can offer no suggestions.

I have the following questions :

I have a TX (USA) Licence and Online Driving Record Abstract for last 3 years. I'm moving to Toronto in 10 days. I was under the impression that we don't need to order the driving record by mail. Looks like my assumption was flawed.

Can someone please let me know if i will need a Mailed DMV driving record original copy or Online printed Driving Record is fine to exchange it with Ontario driving license?? The ordered mail copies will reach me after 3 weeks as per the DMV website.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

I would say it depends on ServiceOntario worker, but https://www.ontario.ca/page/exchange-out-province-drivers-licence states that:
"Proof of driving experience
You can self-declare one year of driving experience, by showing a valid, original foreign driver’s licence.

If you want to earn credit for more than one year of driving experience, you will also need an official letter from the foreign government or agency that issued the driver’s licence, confirming that the licence is authentic. This letter needs to be written in English or French."

Thank you!! I totally get your point on the case depends on ServiceOntario Worker.

I downloaded Online Copy of my driving record from the Texas DMV website, does the copy count as "Proof of driving experience" Or it needs to be a Mailed letter from the TX driving office?

If I self-declare one year of driving experience, do they provide me Full G license?

I did the exact same thing, took the online copy of my driving record (texas DL) but when i went to get my ontario g license, They asked me for the payment receipt too. Luckily i took the pdf copy of the payment receipt. So i printed it and submitted there. Got my G license. So, Online copy of your texas driving record along with THE RECEIPT OF PAYMENT are sufficient to exchange. Don't forget to take your landing document.

Which ServiceOntario Location did you go for the License exchange? I believe it needs to be a center with DriveTest ability and only they do Exchange of license. Please, correct me if this is wrong.

Has anyone exchanged their expired US DL for full license in Onatrio? I know it says it needs to be valid in the website. Has anyone did it recently ?If so , could you please let me know the location? My license expired in March end and I will be landing in June. Any help ..Really appreciated.

Why dont you just renew and have that slip at least(even if you dont have the physical card).
Ontario guys (at least windsor) are stupid and adamant.

See this drama example: I took the documents i received from lansing and gave it to her. The stupid lady at the office was asking me that how come this document is not folded. Actually i sent the prepaid full size envelope to lansing to get it fast and luckily they used that usps return envelope to send me back quickly. So the documents were not folded and straight as it was printed and signed. But the damn lady at the ontario license office is suspecting me that i printed them and asking why it was not folder because they would send folder in regular mail. I was so angry and explained that stupid how i got the documents.

Another example: They were telling me that the driving record/experience/validity should be within last 3 years. But i told that there is no such rule mentioned on website but these dumb people add lot of other rules and viewing immigrants as rule breakers.

I cant stress how much adamant they are. Dont hesitate for spending 20 bucks on renewing, it will save lot of hassle.

Adding details :

I went to DriveTest Mississauga to exchange my USA license with Ontario and they were very helpful. The process was swift and completed the exchange in 15-20 mins. I got my Full G license . They accepted the printed copy as it also had a receipt. They returned back the receipt to me. Hope this information helps.

was your Texas DL still good? Mine is expired and I wanted to order a driving abstract from Texas DPS as well. So when you ordered it from their website, they gave the receipt and the driving abstract in pdf?

Yes, my License was valid till end of the year. When you order abstract online, the receipt is not a part of the drivers abstract print. The receipt page shows up with details in the same browser where you order the abstract. You would need to print the receipt page too. At drive test center they gave back my Texas Driver abstract order receipt. However , I would take it with me as it totally depends on the Agent working there. The agents were very nice overall.

Regarding physical abstract, i also got it mailed to my forwarding address but i received it after landing in Toronto. If you reside in Texas and order the extract, you shall get it in 2 weeks.

Thank you so much for your response. So may I ask why you had to order both pdf and physical? I am not in USA anymore so my only option is to order online.

The reasons to get the physical abstract are :
a. The agents don't accept Online prints in some locations.
b. They need it officially from Texas DMV in an envelope. For my friend they have denied exchange in the Etobicoke Drive center as his abstract letter was not folded like mailed in envelope. I would suggest take it as is to them.

In my case at Mississauga Drive test center they didn't ask for folded driving abstract and the agents were pretty cool about it. I would suggest you take a online print with the receipt and visit the drive center to find out what they say about it.
