I submit my citizenship application in Sept 2018. I got the application number in Dec 2018 and E-Cas shows it still in process since Dec 2018.

I did not get test invitation till the moment.

Should I ask for GCMS notes or better to wait?

It is still within the 12 month timeframe. You may want to wait.

Applying for GCMS notes is not a major intervention like contacting your MP etc. It is in fact quite routine and you are entitled to ask for electronic notes about your application through privacy act. I have used it several times before for my PR application and am awaiting my first notes in my citizenship application.

It puts your mind at ease in a big way when you see "Approved" and "Completed" in several parts. And sometimes notes have some useful info about eligibility etc. So instead of worrying continuously, I would suggest applying for GCMS notes.

Applying for GCMS notes is totally up to you, you are entitled by law, requesting such notes will not have any impacts on your application. Some take it peace of mind, some dont bother but it may still take a month to obtain such notes (atleast for me).

The more you’d visit this thread while you wait for your test; the more anxious you’d be looking at the progression of others. You choose what satisfies you mentally and don’t disturb your peace. If ATIP (GCMS) will help you; you may go for it! If you are friends with your mental arena; you may wait!

Good luck :)

As much as obtaining GCMS notes may have a placebo effect for some, to be clear there is RARELY anything learned from the version provided clients that the applicant does not already know or can readily infer based on what he or she should know.

There are some situations in which an application for personal records should be made. The vast majority of such requests discussed in this forum are NOT such cases.

As much as these reports may be reassuring to some, many others are perplexed by the cryptic entries and codes, distracted or even misled by default notations. More than a little anxiety has been fueled rather than soothed.

The VAST MAJORITY of qualified applicants who are confident they properly completed the forms can RELAX. The process works. SLOWLY. But it works. No need to micromanage. No need to fret. Watch your paper mail, your email, and your eCas, and respond accordingly to any communications from IRCC. Odds are all is well and on track. DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY. (Unless you already have, and know you have, reason to worry. In which case the GCMS report is not likely, not at all likely, to offer you any useful information.)

But as others insist, sure, if placebos work for you, or you have a compelling need to feel like you are doing something and can pretend this is doing something, yes Canadians have a statutory right (what the law considers a privilege) to obtain personal records from an agency like IRCC.

I guess the person receiving the notes needs to have a decent level of education to make some sense out of it. As for don't worry be happy - it rarely ever is the case when you are awaiting any kind of immigration as a lot has been put on hold. I dare not leave the country because Montreal gives just two weeks notice for the oath and I don't want to reschedule when I do get it. You can't relocate to another part of Canada or look for a job in another province because changing your province can cause delays with transferring my file.

So, in these circumstances, any action makes you feel better even if getting notes which tells you something has passed and something is in process. Again, to use the notes effectively would need a decent level of education, but getting my first notes when I applied for PR taught me something very interesting about my passing my eligibility. When I sponsored my wife, I painstakingly wrote cover pages describing the importance of everything that I was submitting. So I have learned a lot from the notes which I received and I would always recommend others to get notes. If they can't understand them, go to someone who can help them for free. I have interpreted notes for many of my friends and colleagues who have applied for PR and there are a lot of them even on this forum.

Very thoughtful of you! Good job helping out friends and colleagues.
Were you able to help them getting enrolled for decent level of education or at least an ESL course?

Hi there, just wonder if you have received any updates yet? My time line is exactly like yours and haven't had anything more since!!
Does applying for GCMS helped you in anyway?
