Hi guys,

Do you know how much in total a child under 5 can potentially get per year in BC?

Is "Affordable child benefit" of BC different with "Canada Child Benefit"?

On top of that, some daycare can qualify for "child care fee reduction".

Does it mean if a child is sent to licensed daycare, he/she can receive 3 types of benefit?

Affordable child benefit is provincial, Canada Child benefit is federal. Highly doubt you would qualify for a subsidized daycare spot if you qualified to immigrate. The subsidized spots are really for low income families and they are tough to get even when you are lower income. The cost of daycare is variable based on if you use a home daycare or an actual daycare/preschool. Would anticipate monthly costs of good preschool could be $1500-1800 easily. Might be more.

Hi canuck78, thank you for your response. Which official site can you refer to to say that licensed daycare is just for low income families? If you mean that, a child can only get "federal benefit" rather than "affordable child benefit"?

I said subsidized spots are only for low income families. You will have to pay market rate.

It used to be called child care subsidy...so easy to assume. They just raised the limit and changed the name this past year.

Hi simpsol22, do you know that I can apply for those 2 benefits right after landing and how long it will take. Will I get refund for the fee paid during the waiting time for approval? Thank you.

Are you per entry landing with your children? Are you going to BC? Believe one payment goes straight to the daycare so you would have to be in licensed daycare to apply. CCB (federal benefit) will require submitting information on your previous international income. Not sure about whether there is a standard wait period/processing time or whether you will be receive back pay.

Hi canuck78, Yes, we are going to BC and we are finding licensed daycare. Thank you.

You can only apply for it once you have found a daycare. You do it through the family services website that had the estimator. For the 2nd benefit, you'd need to ask that licensed centre if they have been approved for the fee reduction initiative. Both of these go direct to the daycare.
