Hi all,

Some clarification would be appreciated...

So I'm currently in the pool for a working holiday visa, joined around 2 months ago.

Looking at the stats now, there are roughly 90 spots available and over 3,900 candidates in the pool.

Once the 90 spots run out will I have to wait till the end of 2019 to have a chance of being selected?

The UK program is always way oversubscribed - meaning there are far more applicants than spaces available. So unfortunately there's no guarantee you'll be selected at the end of 2019 or in 2020.

Any idea of getting into Canada via an alternative route? I don't have enough points for PR I only have like 428... This has put me on a downer. Appreciate the info though.

Yes - that's unfortunately too low for Express Entry. You can look into the PNP immigration programs.

Another option (if you have the money) would be to come here on a study permit as a full time student. If you study a two year program you'll end up with a 3 year open work permit after that.

You could try for a closed work permit. However that requires a job offer in Canada and your employer must obtain an approved LMIA. Typically next to impossible to find employers willing to go through the process.

Make sure you set up a new profile when the program re-opens next year. Your profile will not be carried over. You'll need to set up a new one.

Is there a distinct advantage to setting up your profile immediately? Slightly concerned how the quota is already full for the UK 4-5 months in!

Yes - there's an advantage. There are several draws and the earlier you set up your profile - the more draws you are included in and have a chance of being selected. Again, the program is over-subscribed each year. What you are seeing this year is normal and you should expect the same next year. There will be far more people with profiles set up than spaces available right from the start. Set your profile up as soon as the program reopens so that you are included in all of the random draws.
