Hi everyone,

I have some confusion regarding applying under CEC with my spouse. I have been in Canada for 4 years and she came here 2 years ago. So we have been living together for 2 years and we are not married.

While creating my EE profile selected my marital status as common-law and claimed points for her education and language tests. If I do get an ITA, will I need to submit my spouse's PCCs and medical? She is not applying for PR as she is just finishing her diploma now.

And in general, if I include my spouse in the EE profile does that mean I am applying for 2 PRs? Should I apply for PR as single then?

Thanks so much for your help.

Whether you add your common-law as accompanying or non-accompanying she will be required to provide PCC and medicals.

If you are looking to claim points for her credentials then you must include her as accompanying dependent and you will both get PR.

Thanks so much for such a quick reply. I initially wanted to apply as single but was scared that CIC would think I am lying to them. If I change my application to single now, would it cause any problems for me or my spouse in future?

But you're not single, you're common law according to your post.

You're right, I guess I have no options now. I just didn't know that adding my spouse to my profile and claiming points for her education/language means that we are both applying for permanent residence. I actually get more points by applying alone.

Sorry for being annoying, I have one last question: are there any other extra documents needed (except for PCC and medical) from my spouse when we get an ITA?

Not sure what you mean by extra, but as a co-applicant, of course she will have to complete forms and provide documents. Review this webpage -
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/permanent-residence/express-entry/applications-received-on-after-january-1-2016-completeness-check.html

BTW, I'm sure it is clear by now, but if you have a spouse, it is not optional whether to include her on your application - it is required.
