Spousal Sponsorship mean Permanent Residency?

Hello,

I’m going to be sponsoring my husband to immigrate to Canada as a Family. We currently live in the US. We can do spousal sponsorship as our kids have Canadian Certificates so don’t need to do Family.

1) Can someone tell me if you need to apply for permanent residence separately or is it all part of the main form if you pay right of permanent residence fee ($490)

2) Do you get permanent residency right when you land if you pay the fee? Ie can you apply for SIN card to start working right away?

3) Do we have to pay anything for our kids?

Applying for spousal sponsorship IS applying for permanent residence, just pay the fee at the same time.

2) Do you get permanent residency right when you land if you pay the fee? Ie can you apply for SIN card to start working right away?

Whoa - slow down. You apply for spousal sponsorship and pay both that fee and the PR fee (IIRC comes to a total of $CAD1150 or something like that). You send the pack off and wait, go for a medical etc. US citizens usually take about 6 months to process. Once approved, they will send you a Confirmation of Permanent Residence form (CoPR). THEN with that in hand, you can trot to the border and 'land' - hand over the passport and CoPR and say 'I wish to land to declare PR'. Also have your customs 'goods accompanying / goods to follow' forms for stuff you are brning with you. THEN the next day if you like, trot along to a Services Canada office with passport and stamped CoPR and ask for a SIN number. Once you have that, then he can work.

3) Do we have to pay anything for our kids?

If as you say they are Canadian citizens, then no, nothing to pay on spousal sponsorship. You should however get them both Canadian passports which will of course cost something (minimal).​

1) What psssport do you hand over and why? Do they keep it?

2) We visit family often in Canada - can we cross over to Canada once approved and NOT bring the landing papers until we are officially ready to land? Or is it best to land and then come back to the US and get our stuff in order. Any information on this would be very helpful. How long do you have to land and can you cross over without landing even when approved.

3) Is the medical for all of us or only my husband?

You must apply to sponsor your husband if you are either Canadian citizens or permanent resident.if your kids hold Canadian certificate of birth there isn't any problem. Either you apply outland or inland depending on the status of your husband in USA. currently it could take between 8 to 12months if everything is correct .if you apply inland your husband can be given work permit if you include an application for open work permit .

1. Your husband will not have to hand over his passport. The previous poster simply meant that he will have to have his passport when entering Canada as every other person must do.

2. There is no point in delaying the landing.

What Canuck in UK said. You are clearly very early in your reading on this. You need to get stuck in with the forms and get the pack sent in. You seem to be racing ahead to 'what if' and 'what next'. Suggest you take it one step at a time.

Hello Everyone,

I am a PR living in Canada. I am getting married in India. My fiance(holder of Indian passport) is currently working in the US and will move over to Canada with me after our wedding. He has a visitor visa to Canada. We are planning on applying an inland PR for him once he is here. I have a few questions :

1. When he comes to Canada, should he inform at the port of entry about our plans of applying a spousal PR?

2. I read that since he is on a TRV (visitor visa) strong ties to our home country (India) should be shown. He will show that he has enough funds to support his duration of stay in Canada and can also show his return tickets to India. But at that point of time, he will not hold a job as he will resign from his job in the US. Will this be an issue? Will it be better if I say that I will be sponsoring his inland PR application?

Hi @Kweis - As @Hurlabrick said you should get your children Canadian passports because they may need one to travel to Canada since they are Canadian citizens.
This link says Dual Canadian citizens need a Canadian passport to fly to Canada - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/new-adult-passport/apply.html
But this link says there is an exception if you are dual American-Canadian citizen and you can travel on American passport - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/dual-canadian-citizens-visit-canada.html.

I've gotten my son his citizenship certificate so he's dual American-Canadian and we're in the process getting his Canadian passport too (just to ensure he doesn't have any issues). Unfortunately, his American passport needed to be renewed too so it's an expensive couple of months with passports!

Hello again.

I have now started reading guides and forms. If our 3 children already have Canadian Certificates I don’t have to include them on IMM0008. Is this correct? Is there somewhere to include their Certificates or would I just leave them entirely out of the application package?

I didn't include my son's because he will be 18 next month and I thought he would just move to Canada on his own as an adult Canadian citizen if he decides to move. Also he is my son from a previous marriage and not the son of myself and the PA... which might make a difference?
He was mentioned in the forms (somewhere, can't remember where) as my son only. I guess if they need it they will ask eh? Oh goodness, so many things to worry about not doing perfectly in our application.

Off the top of my head without looking at the app, I don't believe you are required to include them.

We read the instructions so many times and I didn't remember seeing that requirement either.
