Hi,

Just want to ask if anyone here has the same scenario as mine. I am currently studying at Canadore College a PGWP eligible school, now after my course for 1yr I want to study a bit more but on a different university which is not a PGWP eligible, since the course I am looking at is offered in that school. Question is would I still be allowed after I have finished my 2nd course to apply for a PGWP using my credentials in Canadore

Why would you want to go to a non-PGWP school? If you want to change schools, pick one that is eligible. I think you have 180 days now to submit your PGWP application (used to be 90). So if you are planning to do another years course, that would take you outwith the 180 days and you couldn't apply. If PGWP is your goal, do not go to a school that isn't eligible.

Thanks for your insight. I am looking at this university wherein it offers Digital Marketing course but unfortunately it is not PGWP eligible. So need to find a new uni.

Yes good idea. Unfortunately they have changed the rules now and back to back one year courses only get a maximum of 2 years PGWP (used to be 3)

No if the course is two years, the max for the PGWP is 3 years. The rule I quoted is only if you take back to back 1 year courses.

Oh i see. Thanks. Just one more. My course runs from Jan 2019 to Jan 2020 but will be finished early maybe this August, will I still be able to get the PGWP for 2yrs if I enroll in the same uni by Jan 2020?

If the official course letter from the uni(s) state the course is 1 year, that is what they look at for PGWP eligibility. I would suggest finding a 2 year course to do next, then you would be eligible for a 3 year PGWP off that course.

It's a rule that doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. Most 2 year courses have 4 semesters - so they are bound to get 3 years PGWP for 4 semesters.

Something like George Brown, which has 3 semesters per year, which would mean a 1+1 there will be 6 semesters - so they get 2 years PGWP for 6 semesters.

The old PGWP durations were ideal, in my opinion.

I agree, but they make the rules, not us unfortunately.

I really need your insights on this matter, I have worked full time right after my college ends and before I applied for PGWP, will this be an issue with my PR application? How can I rectify this problem, if anyone has experience, please share.

April 17, 2020 - college ends
April 18, 2020 - started working full time
May 10, 2020 - received college credentials
June 3, 2020 - applied for PGWP
