My roommates are saying i cannot get a pgwp for this course unless i do graduate from a different course.background is that
I started school August2014.graduated 2016.i was not aware the rules had changed and i had to leave 90 days after graduating.the old rules said when my permit expired. So i did leave canada 2weeks before permit expired in 2017.VO obviously ignored the overstay so i am now back here in canada after being in egypt .im doing the advanced portion of the *same *course for 1yr.i started jan2019. never received a pgwp.so i should get pgwp 3years.right?

there is no rule that you have to leave 90 days after graduation. The old rule was you needed to file for PGWP 90 days after you graduated/completed your course. You have a 2 year gap in your studies. Did you apply for a new student permit?

OP needed to apply to change their status or leave by the 90 day mark.

Your permit will expire 90 days after the day you complete your studies, no matter what the expiry date on the permit is.

No, you will not get a 3 year PGWP. The 2 year course that you did previously no longer counts.

Think the issue is the gap between your courses should be maximum 2 years gap, then the time can be combined when applying for PGWP. So if you finish this new 1 year course you will get 1 year PGWP. Talk to immigration advisor a your school.
