Extending Study Permit Without Valid Passport

Hi all,

I am an international student and my passport expires in around two weeks. This technically means that my study permit will also expire at the same time. I have already applied for renewing my passport from my home country for a long time, but they say that it takes at least another ten days from now. I was wondering if you have ever had the same experience?

One idea that I had was to apply for the extension right now (explaining my situation in a letter) and then send the information of my new passport to CIC after receiving it. The reason that I am a bit stressed is that the CIC requires you to apply at least a month prior to expiry.

Hi

Status cannot be granted beyond passport expiry. There is no requirement to apply 30 days ahead of time; that is a suggestion.

As long as you apply before it expires it is ok, would not suggest sending an incomplete application maybe on the last day if you still don't have the passport but even then its a risk since its incomplete application.
Also make sure you are looking at you study permit expiry date and not your TRV expiry date.
