Project Management 1 year PGDM - BIG DOUBT !

Hi All,

In most of the colleges Project Management - PGDM is of 2 semesters(1 yr) or 3 semester(last Co-Op paid mostly) and the 3 semester option is costly too.

So if I need to take another 1 year PGDM to get 3 yrs PGWP(stay back) which course can be opted as I heard Project Management is a higher level course and if we opt for any technical course after this, it is difficult to get into as other courses are in lower level compared to this( I mean any management courses)

I am from IT background and taking Project Management this Fall 2019 and after this which course would be a better option and one can get easily in colleges ?

Absolutely nothing like that. What are you applying project management to ? Is there any relavant course to IT that will help you out, because remember it's another 15-16K CAD that you will have to spend.

Management courses are not of a "lower level" than project management. Project management is something that is done by mostly engineering students. Things like marketing, advertising , accounting etc are all more business related and not something someone studying project management would take.

Don't force yourself to take another course purely for the 3 year PGWP.

You can get a closed work permit, provided that the employer agrees to do a LMIA, that depends on your employability and skill set. If you have a good PR score you can apply for express entry during your 1 year work permit. Also, you can apply for Ontario International student stream if you have a job offer after your college, however that takes time. If you get nominated in that program you can apply for a bridging open work permit that is valid till you get your PR application accepted or rejected.

Doing 2 year's course or 2 courses of 1 year is not the only solution, however it is your choice to do what you wish. I feel unless you really want to study something it's a waste of 16 K CAD.

You can pretty much do any course you want as your second course colleges are a money making machine and they will not refuse you.

You can take another one year program and club them together and you may be applicable for 3 year pgwp

I have a similar query .I got an offer letter for 1 year course (3 semesters) in professional accounting which is a higher level programme .Can anyone help me with the steps to be taken in order to get the PGWP extended to 3 years on time in case I wish to do a bridging course ?

You can get a closed work permit, provided that the employer agrees to do a LMIA, that depends on your employability and skill set. I'm also taking admission in a 1 year program, from what I have heard till now it seems that doing another one year program after that will make us eligible for 3 year work permit. What intake u r going for?

I am going in September intake, what do you think won't it be a big hustle to get enrolled in another 1 year program we will even have to get our study visa extended right?

Extensions are easier to get than the actual study permit.

I think we will have to apply for admissions in advance as most colleges are filling very early these days, I asked a few friends and they said it's easy to extend study permit you just have to upload related documents on the CIC website

I have some clarification.....If I did 1 year program finishing in May and next program starting in Sept of the same year....what can we do in the time in between....don't our study permit expires on May itself and Can we apply for extension ? we should have LOA in hand before applying foe extension right ?
