hello Friends,

I have a question regarding the use of the record of landing or confirmation of permanent residency after securing citizenship.

Is this document still important after one has obtained citizenship?

What should I do if I have realized that I have lost the original and have only a copy with me?

Should I apply for one, or it’s no longer that useful after obtaining Canadian citizenship?

Looking forward to your replies.

Thank you

I heard you need that to get old age pension. It's best to replace it if lost, or correct it if there's an error on it.

Yup, has ZingyDNA said. You won't need it for awhile but eventually you will.

I sent my application for verification of status in order to retrieve my Confirmation of Permanent Residence today.
I read it takes up to 6 months to get it.

I received my verification of status (COPR) today, exactly 1 month after I applied .
Thank you for outlining the usefulness of this document.
Could you please paste the CIC link where you applied for that document? Thanks
Did you receive it via email or Post?

What is the difference between having a copy of COPR and then applying stating lost original and finally getting the same by email? The email one if downloaded and printed again is a copy.
Totally confused.

The Verification of Status(VoS) doc is NOT a copy of the COPR. It is in fact a document which essentially contains all the details from COPR laid out.
COPR and VoS docs both look different

While applying for a VoS online, if you dont provide an email address, a physical copy is sent to your postal address. Otherwise its sent to your email.

Once a COPR is lost/destroyed/torn etc, another 'original' is not sent by CIC. But merely a different doc called VoS, which essentially contains all the information from the COPR

Thanks for the info.
Right now the VOS is the replacement doc for COPR since Aug 2012.
I just got this link:

No problem. So it doesn't take long. Maybe I should stop being lazy and get one for my wife whose CoPR has an error. Gotta do it sooner or later.. And it's interesting to note they might just send you an electronic copy to replace the original CoPR..
