I’m gonna send my sponsorship application next week. I have a visitor status until next month (18th March 2019).
If I send my sponsorship with an Open Work Permit application, I still need to apply to a visitor extension?

Hi

You should as a back-up. If the PR and/or OWP app is returned for any reason after March 18th, you would be out of status and no longer qualify for the OWP.

You should still apply to extend your status as "insurance". If your application is returned for any reason (e.g. missing fees, missing signature, incomplete forms) - you'll end up in Canada without status. By extending your status, you'll protect yourself from this risk.
