PGWP extension to open work permit as spouse of international student

HI all,

I have a PGWP and it is about to end soon. I married my long term girlf friend and she is an international student. So in order to apply for a new open work permit in which catogery will it fall. Initial work permit or work permit extension.

Just so you know spouses of international students aren't guaranteed SOWP. New permit. Your PGWP is ending.

yes my pgwp is ending soon in 6 months. So when i apply it is an initial work permit not an extension. Do you have an idea about the success rate? AS i do not want to leave my wife alone plus i am supporting her.

Seems to depend on your wife's degree and your savings. There seems to be much more success for advanced degrees like masters and PhD. You won't be able to bridge the permits so would recommend you apply based on the current wait times so you don't have to stop working if you are granted the SOW/p.

Applications within Canada are very rarely refused. You should have no issues.

The difficulty in getting an SOWP generally applies to applicants outside of Canada trying to enter for the first time. As OP is already in Canada, there should be no issue.
