I have come across a lot of people bad mouthing VIU. I am very happy with my choice and really glad that I did not take these negative comments into consideration. I am commenting strictly from the perspective of my master's program so if someone.has a different view then they are welcome to it.
A master's degree without a GMAT is looked down upon. Let us see what GMAT is all about:-
The Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer adaptive test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA.Wikipedia.
Any individual seeking admission to a MBA program is already a graduate in management (Bachelor's degree holder) and thus has proved his analytical quantitative written and verbal skills. IELTS score also helps establish the language skills that an applicant possess. Institutions offering master's degree without GMAT demand at least a year of related work experience. So IMO GMAT score should not be an exclusive criteria for admission.
My take on VIU:
A master's degree without GMAT in a beautiful setting like Vancouver Island along with a small classroom strength is a big plus. Part time jobs are easily available if you are not too choosy. I myself worked at Wal-Mart before my internship (worked for a big financial firm in India).
On campus accommodation are available and recommend for the first semester. Later on you can look for off campus accommodation with your new found mates.
As.for placements you have to do all the legwork and find it on your own this is a norm in most universities except maybe the top tier ones where the snob values attached to them attract employers. The internship coordinators provide you excellent support and I am grateful for their efforts. But eventually your determination and grit ensures that you get employed the pay may not be great but the experience is invaluable.
VIU MBA graduates have done very well you can check out their alumni list.
Hope this helps.
