Hi, I’m currently pursuing bachelors in psychology (3 years degree) in india and its my last semester. I was wanting to apply to study graduate diploma in HR for September intake but then my dad suggested that I should study one more year here and then apply for masters in a university. But I wanted to join in September itself and not wait one more year. If somebody can suggest which option would be more beneficial.
Also if I pursue grad. Diploma are there any chances for getting a good job?

I have scored 7.5 in ielts and have a average grades.
But if i go for graduate diploma is there any harm? Or does masters more beneficial in terms of getting a job?

What does HR have to do with psychology?, doing this diploma will not help you out as psychology has nothing to do with HR, it will also be difficult to get a visa as there is no relevance between what you studied and what course you want to do.

You need to see what the Universities want. For example, some universities like the University of Toronto want a combination of a 3 yrs bachelor along with a master’s degree. Some like Ryerson University say, if your degree has a certain amount of subjects, then they will consider your degree equivalent to a 4 years degree. Also, most of them ask for GRE as well which I hope you have written or will write.

Psychology is something that will be most useful if you study in a University. Doing this diploma isn't going to help you gain admission into any University. It is just going to be a waste of time & money.

There are two options, one see a college which accepts a 1 year masters and do a masters degree in psychology or a field relating to that either in your home country or Canada.

Second, you can look for a University that has a bridging program, though those are mostly for bachelors, but you could still look around, or you can contact the University admissions and see what would they accept. There may be a University that accepts your current degree as an equivilant.

Don't be in a rush, take your time and do. This is your future, ultimately though it is your choice.

Thank you for your response but I’m doing Psychology with specialisation in industrial organisational psychology so my main subjects include “development initiatives in Organizations, role of psychologists in organization, concepts and applications of consumer behaviour, Human Resource management, applications of industrial psychology and so on. So I thought going HR is relevant and i know many people who have done either masters or diploma course in HR

If you want to do something with HR then I would suggest doing a 1 yr masters as most universities would not accept a graduate diploma + a 3 year degree.

If you believe it's related to your career then it's your choice but personally the HR you are going to learn is more in the practical side and not theory. College is all about practical application. While you may specialise in psychology with regards to human resources this college course isnt going to help you in that regard.

I would suggest you analyse what program you are going to take and see if that is going to be something that will add value to your studies and is something accepted by a University.

HR and Psychology (particularly Industrial Psychology) are related. However, in this case, VO might not see this as a progression since you have a 3 year bachelors degree. What you might learn in the 2 year diploma you might have already covered in your previous degree. Go for graduate certificate at least.

I think OP wanted to do a graduate diploma only. In BC they call it post degree or graduate diploma. In Ontario post graduate programs are only certificate programs. Regardless Universities, at least the ones I have searched want a 1 yr masters if you have a 3 year degree or some ridiculously complicated equivalency.

They don't seem to accept graduate certificates/diplomas unless you are getting a seat in University based on your performance in the college graduate program, like you have got yourself.

That’s why I commented that VO might not see that as a progression if OP already have previous bachelors degree.

I got that; I was talking about the Universities not accepting diploma or certificate courses as 1 year equivalent for a 3 year degree program. Unless the University has a pathway agreement with a particular college, the requirements seem to be very strict.
