Which one is better for sending passports, Fedex or UPS? I have read some posts where people are saying Fedex return label needs to be marked as commercial. I am not seeing any such thing with UPS though and getting a better rate with UPS.
Also, i was thinking of just using the express envelope they provide and put in a similar folded express envelope in that for return shipping. However some people have mentioned that they are using medium size boxes for that. Is it really required?
Also, for the pics, what is the best option without much hassle? I am thinking of clicking myself, editing in photoshop and getting it printed form walmart.
Would really appreciate if the guys who have sent their passports recently can help.

One of our friends here had used ups and almost lost passport; go to page 170 of this thread. FedEx is definitely preferred even though it's expensive.
You can just use envelopes. If it's box, who knows , customs may be more inclined to open.
You cannot take the pic, it has to be an external commercial photographer . Moreover they have to stamp their name, date. I think it's best to find a professional photographer or some place that sells high end cameras and also takes pics. Cic is strict with pics and often refuses photos.
Please read PPR instructions carefully . Open the PDF for photo instructions, they are very clear.

You can choose either whichever is giving you better rate. No need to use a box. The case dear @maverick1982 has mentioned is true, however it happened because I think the package was sent to a PO box address and UPS couldn't deliver it and the package got lost on return as they messed up the return unit number.

However, since then IRCC has updated its PPR instructions and they themselves include street address for US residents. So it should not be an issue now.

And you are correct. For Fedex you will need to generate commercial invoice but you don't need any extra effort for that. The system automatically generates it.

For UPS, there is an option where you mark it as personal documents and it doesn't generate commercial invoices and it works fine. I haven't used it personally though.

For UPS instructions go through page 154,155,156..if I remember 145 might be useful too..people have posted how they used UPS. Hope this helps.

Hi Everyone. Thanks again for all the important information :) really helping with this waiting time. May I please ask what important info from the GCMS notes should I look into, just the last part right? I saw the EE Required for the Employment letter so I sent a new one. Also, I submitted the additional info last Dec. Do you think I can request for a new set of GCMS notes again? I'll be turning 6 months this week. Super thanks for all the help :)

Yeah apply for another set just to see if the eligibility status changed in the meanwhile. Generally in Montreal if you provide documents proactively they take them in to consideration. I have seen 4 cases like that on this thread where additional documents worked and there was no delay from Montreal's standard timeline. All the best!

Free carrier and choose personal documents or something like that.
