Hi, Could someone help me understand the steps required to become a immigrant qualified teacher in Canada. Currently i am working as a secondary school teacher in a government school and has got 3+ years in the government sector and earlier worked for 3+ yrs in private schools.I am an MA, B.ED (ENGLISH) in qualification and am interested to persue my career in Canada. I have the below questions.Kindly help to guide me
1) Can i apply for a PR in the skills related to Teaching profession. If not can i apply for my PR in any other skills mentioned in those 24 eligible skills for the PR?
2) I am planning to take my IELTS. Is there any other exam to be taken for being eligible for a teaching profession here.
3) Where and how should i apply for this teaching procession, if i am applying from India.
4) What could be the pay scale for a teacher here ( Grades 4th -10th).
5) Would my education and teaching experience be considered as eligible for applying in Canada?
6) I heard that i can apply for my PR as a social worker and once i come in here, i can complete the required formalities/ training and start my career as a teacher. Is this really possible ?
7) What is the minimum experience expected from a foreigner like me for being eligible for a teaching profession.
8) What are the benefits one could get once we start our career as a teacher here.
9) Any idea about the cost that is incurred to complete any required trainings/ education to be eligible for becoming a teacher.

Kindly help and sorry for the long list of questions.
Thanks
Kisho

You must be certified to teach in Ontario. Read through the information on the following web sites for more information:

http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/working/OI_HOW_WORK_TEACHER.html

http://www.oct.ca/becoming-a-teacher/internationally-educated-teachers

1) Teaching is not on the list of desired occupations for FSW at this time. If you wish to apply for PR through FSW, you will first need to obtain a job offer in Canada.
2) See links above
3) See links above

FYI - right now Ontario has too many teachers and not enough teaching positions. Expect it to be difficult to find a job.

You'd have to do a masters in teaching or perhaps you can find a private school to hire you but most prefer Canadian teacher certification. It is quite challenging to get into teaching training and to get a job especially in Ontario. Most have to do supply teaching for a few years.
