Hi,
I'm on a French passport and currently living in New Zealand. I became a Canadian PR in 2014 (after living in Canada for 8 years), continued to live in Canada for 6 months, and then left with my Canadian wife. Now my PR card is about to expire in May and I need to go to Canada for a conference in June. With my expired PR card, I assume I won't be able to board a flight to Canada.
As far as I can tell, I have two options:
* apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document.
* fly into the US and drive up to Canada.
I'd like to go for the second option since applying for a PRTD would mean giving away my passport for a couple of weeks, which I can't really afford at the moment due to other travel.
When driving up from the US, I can show my expired PR card at the border as well as copies of my wife's Canadian passport, our marriage certificate, and our lease agreements from the last few years to show that I accompanied a Canadian citizen abroad.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Any other documents I should bring with me to the border?
Thanks!
