You can continue to work on an expired SIN (and be paid) until you receive your BOWP. Once received, go to a Canadian Services office to renew the expiry date on your SIN. The only thing I would consider in your circumstance is waiting to file last year's tax return until you have renewed your SIN expiry - though I can't confirm if that is actually affected.

Source: I've done this.
Thanks!

Unless your status changes (temp to PR to Citizen), the expired SIN will do (in my opinion)
yes i got second ghost update yesterday
CIC doesn’t understand and believe in this ghost email concept. Hence if there was a ghost email or update, there have been some changes.
So you should precisely ask what changes has been made which triggered this email or update. I am sure you will have some additional informations.

The one thing that confuses me is - My work permit expires this Saturday (Feb 2nd) + my SIN, same for my wife.

PR is still at IP2 and I am waiting for BOWP/SOWP for and my wife to get approved so I guess after Saturday we're onto implied status until either PR or BOWP/SOWP is approved. But then that makes me thing what the point was for paying to apply for the BOWP/SOWP if implied status kicks in anyway? :S

Because you are implied status for BOWP and you can work. But implied status for PR application does not allow you to work.

So I called CIC and they told me, my application has been finalized and approved. But now I have to wait for PPR email.

So my security has been cleared, everything else is cleared and my application has sent for finalizing and approval. She didn't say if it was approved, but she said you will get a request for passport in next few days.

were you also stuck on Security not started?
Earlier this month: They told me criminality is in progress and security not started
Then got first ghost update
Mid of this month: Called again and asked for the ghost update. But they said background check still in process.
Then got second ghost update
End of this month: Called again, and they said application approved but have to wait for PPR email.
